• It was a result of some events which started
few years ago; Facebook announced the
launch of a platform called Open Graph to
third party apps in 2010
• Cambridge academic Aleksandr Kogan
created an app called ‘Thisisyourdigitallife’
in 2013
• The app used the users information to make
psychological report for getting a better
targeted audience for the advertisers
• The same was claimed to be used at the
time of American presidential campaign and
Brexit polls

• March 17- The New York Times and The
Guardian’s Observer exposed the largest data
breach in the history of Facebook (FB)
• March 18- US Senators called on FB Chief
Executive Officer Mark Zuckerberg to testify
before Congress
• March 19- FB’s Chief of Security Alex Stamos
left FB in the wake of internal clashes
• March 20- Cambridge University psychology
academic Aleksandr Kogan appears in a CNN
interview and he claims to be used as
scapegoat by FB and Cambridge Analytica
(CA)

• March 21- Mark Zuckerberg breaks his
silence, and FB’s shares dropped
more than 9 percent, losing US$60
billion of its Stock Market Value since
the scandal was exposed
• March 25- Zuckerberg took out full
page advertisements in British and

for the “breach of trust”
• April 10- Zuckerberg was scheduled to
appear before a joint hearing of the
Senate Judiciary and Commerce
committees
