2. WHY THIS PROJECT?
• India being the home of one-third of the
world’s blind population has about 12 million
visually impaired people.
• Four out of 1000 are found to Visually impaired in India
• The number of disabled is highest in the age
group 10-19years with 46.2 lakhs(17% of disabled
population)
• Blindness is an ability which one can overcome
by proper guidance and training.
• A normal human uses about 85% of his
visual perception for his memory while visually
Impaired people rely on their tactile, acoustic
and olfactory senses.

3. • A visually impaired person should be given the
opportunity of quality education, training, skills
and employment.
• This user-specific design considers the sensory
aspects more than the visual aspects.
• Different sensory systems interact to generate a
representation of space and to navigate in them.
• Thus it is required to develop a space that helps in
developing these sensory skills.
• Designing a space for visually impaired
involves the study of their physiological
aspects and perception to space.
