Introduction Process simulation, as a tool to represent real-time performance of processes, has evolved immensely in the past decade. It has not only enabled a faster and an easier understanding of complex processes, but it has also assisted in the debottlenecking and optimization of industrial operations. As part of this course, Simulanis provides you with hands-on training on the industry's leading process simulation software, taking you through all the concepts as basic as getting introduced to the user-interface, and as advanced as manipulating the control panel and optimization algorithms to obtain faster and accurate results. The structure of this course bouquet has been described in the following sections: Course Details Getting started with the industry’s leading simulation engine Basics of process simulation and process synthesis Process lowsheeting on a simulation platform Understanding the property methods, their relevance and their importance Learn the basic techniques to transform a physical description of unit operations and processes into working simulation models. Gain a beginner to intermediary level of pro iciency in simulating simple industrial problems. Create simulation models with renewed con idence through a problem-based learning approach aided by a multitude of practical case studies. Features 1. Introduction Introducing the course bouquet, to help them learn the basics of process simulation, the trainees are refreshed with the fundamental concepts of chemical engineering such as mass and energy balances, thermodynamics of phase and chemical equilibrium, along with heat and mass transfer, in a simulation environment. Hence, the following topics are covered in this section: 01
  3. 3. 3. Optimization After imparting the introductory and basic know-how of working with a simulation tool, the next step in the learning-ladder equips the trainees with the techniques of simulating common unit operations of chemical processes under a range of operating conditions. The major unit operations covered in this section are: Learn to model and simulate basic unit operations of processes. Customize existing unit operation models on a simulation platform. De ine custom models using easy-to-grasp techniques and extend software-speci ic simulation knowledge onto more user-friendly formats (e.g. MS Excel). Features No simulation model of a process is complete without comprehensively exploring the avenues which may exist to effectively optimize the process. In line with this objective, to perform an in-depth simulation model analysis, advanced model-analysis and manipulation techniques are imparted to the trainees, which consequently present them with the underlying opportunities to save costs. The topics covered under this section include: Understand the governing parameters which in luence the technique of process optimization during the design phase. Get acquainted with a systematic decision-making approach to effectively implement optimization strategies in practice. Learn from a host of industrial examples and case-studies illustrating the bene its of process optimization in the form of major energy and capital cost savings. After presenting an all-inclusive account of using the simulation engine through an array of case-studies, expert tips, tools and techniques; the course bouquet aptly concludes with a demonstration of all applications as-instructed, through real-world problems encountered in industry. The following industry-speci ic problems have been covered to suitably accomplish the objectives of the course bouquet (list not exhaustive): Re inery: CDU / VDU Simulations, FCC Unit and Hydrocracker Simulations Pharmaceutical: Dryer, Granulation, Mixing, Milling, Conveying Simulations Chemicals: Ammonia Synthesis, Sulphuric Acid Manufacturing Simulations Utilities: Cogeneration, Heat Exchanger Network Design Features Apply simulation techniques gained from the course to model, simulate and optimize real-world industrial problems.
