2. Introduction
The twenty-first century has already recorded more than
ten major epidemic or pandemic virus emergence events,
including the ongoing and devastating coronavirus disease
2019 (COVID-19) pandemic. As viral disease emergence is
expected to accelerate, there is a need for proactive
approaches to develop broadly active family-specific and
cross-family therapeutics for use in future disease
outbreaks.
6. 1- Antiviral Drug
2- Vaccines
3- Immune-Based Therapies
The Multifaceted
Approach:
7. Antiviral drugs target
specific components of
the viral lifecycle,
inhibiting their replication
and spread within the
host.
e.g. Remdesivir
Antiviral drugs
Vaccines stimulate the
immune system to
recognize and mount a
defense against the virus
without causing disease.
e.g. Pfizer-BioNTech and
Moderna
Vaccines
Immune-based therapies
harness the body's
immune response to fight
viral infections.
e.g. Convalescent
plasma
Immune based
therapies
10. CONCLUSION
The COVID-19 pandemic serves as a stark
reminder of the importance of developing
diverse therapeutic approaches to emerging
viral diseases.
COVID-19 response provide a blueprint for
addressing future viral threats, emphasizing
the need for swift action, international
collaboration, and the continuous advancement
of therapeutic strategies to safeguard global
health and well-being.
