5. Preparing For Your Lesson

You should spend several hours preparing for your SkimaTalk
session. To prepare, please take the following steps:
1. Read the article on pages 6 & 7.
2. Build a presentation following the instructions on page 8.
3. Send the presentation to your instructor via SkimaTalk
message BEFORE the lesson.
4. Practice delivering your presentation in advance of the
session.

presentation should take no more than 5 minutes to deliver.

9. Deliver Your Presentation

Teacher Instructions:
1. Download the student’s presentation from the SkimaTalk message.
2. Listen to the student deliver the full presentation without interruption.
3. During the presentation, take notes on what the student did well and where the
student could improve. Pay particular attention to the following concepts:
à Was the presentation clear and concise?
à Did the presentation effectively use signposts and emotion?
à Was the presentation designed for the target audience?

Teacher Instructions:
1. Discuss the presentation with the student, and ask the following questions:
à “Was this exercise easy or difficult? Why?”
à “What was the hardest part of the exercise?”
à “Did the lessons in this course help you build your presentation?”
2. Review the presentation strengths and areas for improvement that you wrote down.
à Agree on two areas the student should focus on when presenting again.
3. Have the student deliver the presentation a second time.
