Social Media Week Glasgow Cheat Sheet Series – No. 2 How to submit an event for SMW




Social Media Week is a worldwide event exploring the social, cultural and economic impact of
social media. SMW mission is to help people and organizations connect through collaboration,
learning and the sharing of ideas and information.

As a crowdsourced week, Social Media Week is open to anyone to propose an event and
become an event host on the agenda. If the event is approved it will be part of the largest social
media happening in the world.

Event submission for SMW Glasgow opened on June 5 and will close on August 21.

Submitting an Event
You can submit your event through the SMWGla website at
                              www.socialmediaweek.org/submit-event
In order to do this you will need to create an account on the site. Once created this account will
be used to manage the event page as it displays on the site, the registration details and all
aspects of the event. As an event host you are responsible for publicising and managing their
event once it has been submitted and approved.

Criteria for events
There is no fixed event format so events can be very varied, ranging from casual networking
tweet-ups through focused workshops and discussions to grand, headline presentation-based
events with top notch speakers. It’s your call to shape it according to your expertise and to what
you think are the audience’s needs.

But events must be:
- free events – you may not charge
- registration must be open to anyone within the constraints of the venue
- they must take place in Glasgow or online during SMW (24-28 September 2012)
- should be about the impact of Social Media directly or empowering change through
collaboration.

Off-topic and aimless self-promotion is not welcome.
