CDC estimates that 19
million new STDs occur
each year in the United
States.
Young people, ages 15 to
24 years old, account for
nearly ½ of these
infections.

Since 2010, women aged 20 to 24 had the highest
chlamydia rates &
15 to 19 year old women had the second highest
chlamydia rates
compared to any other age or sex group
This means: these young women are more
susceptible to all STDs, including HIV.

Young people are most likely to be
smartphone adopters.
A 2015 Pew report found 83% of 18 to 29
year olds owned a smartphone.
Known barriers to accessing healthcare
among young women of color include cost,
distance, and lack of knowledge regarding
need for preventive healthcare.
There are few mobile apps that provide
medically accurate sexual health info that
are designed by and for young women.
