Kpop just gained a new LGBTQ+ idol, who put his sexuality
forefrontatfor his debut.
Holland’sfirstsingle ‘Neverland’ was released on Januarythe
21st
2018. Thesong is a mellow R&B song, that the singer
described as being about “a boy who couldn’tbe honest
abouthis love and was discriminated, thus desiring to move
to another place where he can express all the love he wants.”
The accompanying music video shows scenes of a same sex
relationship, and received a 19+rating due to this. Same-sex
love is a taboo topic in Kpop and the South Korea
entertainment industry, so it is rarelyaddressed.
Following his debut, Holland has received lots of attention
and gained lots of fans, who areinterested in seeing a
LGBTQ+ representative in the industry. ‘Neverland’ gained
over 1 million views in the first 24 hoursof it being release,
which gained the attention of Billboard, who then made a
video about him.
