Program Overview
Sponsored by:In partnership with:
I am very proud of what our startups achieved
during the 16 weeks of intense work at Startup
Braga. We assisted them to achieve an
important milestone: more than 1,3M€ of capital
investment! Wow! All of this was accomplished
in less than five months. The startups selected
to be in our acceleration program showed true
commitment which helped us to accelerate their growth by adding
value to their high potential projects, making them grow, enter the
market and generate profits for the entrepreneurs and society.
All of this was possible due to over 20 international mentors, to whom
we thank, and who introduced our work to a global network. This
was possible due to more than 200 hours they spent with our teams
orienting them towards success. This was possible due to more than
100 hours of workshops and training our teams invested in.
What seemed just a dream in May 2014, when Startup Braga was
founded, is now a reality based on facts, and our goals turned into
successes.
1,3M€ of funding and products entering the market. That’s what we
can show today.
Startup Braga, our mentors and mostly our Startups teams have
reasons to all feel winners. Feel free to get to know them better in
the following pages!
And if you are an entrepreneur, you now know that we are here
to help! Looking forward to starting the 2015 editon of our
Acceleration Program.

The Startup Braga Accelerator is a 4-month program focus on
startups that develop mobile, web, medtech, e-commerce and
internet of things products.
By providing startups a program designed to help them build,
execute and validate their business model, we want to increase
their chances of success and facilitate access to international
accelerators, markets and funding.
We use the Lean Startup methodology, emphasising the business
model over the business plan, encouraging a process of customer
discovery and development, and iterations to achieve the right
product/market fit.
During the program, startups receive intensive mentoring, training
and guidance by specialist in technical and business aspects.

6. Problem
In the United States, every 40 seconds a child disappears. Worldwide, yearly, 8
million children disappear. According to several studies, the first three hours
following the disappearance of a child are the most crucial, and it takes about
two hours to find its location.
Regarding pets, it’s estimated that one in three dogs will get lost at least once
throughout its life, and around 90% of them never return home.
Solution
One of the Findster secrets is in its innovative wireless communication system,
used to establish communication between the child/pet module and its
parent/guardian module (or the child/pet module and the Base Station).
With our RF protocol, Findster combines the ubiquity of use without the need
for monthly fees.
OUR DEMODAY ASK
We are looking for contacts in the retail sector, both in Europe and in the US.
And we are also looking for investors, interested in future funding rounds.
THE TWEET PITCH
Findster is a new and innovative GPS tracking system working
towards the safety of your loved ones, finding them whenever
you want to. Compared to other systems, there are no
monthly fees!
Findster
Market
Findster Kids and Pets address two separate target markets: children and pets.
The Findster Kids is mainly directed to families with children up to 12 years old
(children that don’t already have a smartphone). The Findster Pets is directed
at families with pets (dogs and cats). In both cases, our product is addressing
to Europe and United States markets.
Business Model
The sale of systems online and the ads on the mobile app (secondary revenues)
will be one of the main revenues of our project, considering the B2C market.
Besides online sales, we intend to create partnerships with retail chains in
order to sell Findster in physical stores. There are also future B2B development
guidelines with this same technological platform that will allow us to include
other markets and other potential customers. One example is the Findster
Elders (directed to the elderly market), the Findster Health (addressed to the
nursing homes market and for people with dementia) and Findster Farm
(livestock management with Google analytics).
Traction
The crowdfunding campaign on Indiegogo allowed us to achieve around 100k of
revenue, from more than 900 backers in 46 different countries. More important
than the investment was the market validation obtained that was accompanied
by an extensive feedback that allowed us to optimize the system to the needs of
the market. We’ve also closed our first round of investment.

7. Problem
An orthopedic surgeon cannot make a full preview of the surgery because he
cannot observe the fracture in multiple angles in the same environment. All
the planning process uses a 2D environment, so the surgeon does not have a
stereoscopic view of the patient’s lesion.
Solution
A novel way to plan all the orthopedic procedure. In a very simple and intuitive
way, the orthopedic surgeon is able to perform any surgical planning moving
the 3D model created from the patient’s CT scan and the 3D prosthetic
material. The 3D environment allows a total anticipated surgery perception and
the possibility to predict some post-surgical complications.
OUR DEMODAY ASK
Invest and join us on our mission to create beautiful, simple and intuitive
medical tools which empower the physicians and helps them providing the
best assistance and support to their patients.
THE TWEET PITCH
A game changer in the surgical planning process. The
orthopedic surgeon can analyze the surgery’s impact using a
powerful 3D environment.
Peekmed
Market
The value of the market transactions is 27 billion Euros and it is expected to
grow 3.5% this year. The number of surgical procedures tends to increase,
greatly due to aging, people’s desire to remain active longer, increase of obesity,
increase of fracture related with osteoporosis and car accident.
Business Model
A freemium model for orthopedic surgeons, an annual subscription or
perpetual license for healthcare facilities and a white label solution for vendors.
Traction
5 healthcare facilities and 30 orthopedic surgeons tested our prototype. We
are also working with Professor José Carlos Noronha (physician of several
high competition football players, such as Cristiano Ronaldo) and with Lisa
Darsch who is helping us to maximize our technology and resources in the
development and commercialization.

8. PROBLEM
Emerging artists have extreme difficulty in showcasing their artworks. Also,
most of the existing art galleries do not sell online. The problem is basically the
same for both segments: the need for showcasing and commercializing their
artworks to art lovers all around the world.
SOLUTION
We offer an integrated solution for artists and art galleries to sell their
artworks. Our job goes beyond the online world, and also includes the logistics
associated with getting the artworks delivered to their new owners. No
headaches for galleries or artists: they just have to take care of the packaging,
and the sold artwork will be directly picked up from their physical space.
OUR DEMODAY ASK
Join us in this journey to help both artists and art galleries grow their ”artworks”
recognition and range through a very simple and integrated solution. Spread the
word: art is just one click away!
THE TWEET PITCH
One click away from unique and affordable art. Select the
artworks you love from artists and art galleries around
the world.
Shair
MARKET
Of the 40 galleries associated with the Portuguese Association of Art Galleries,
none of them sells artworks online. Spain has around 106 official galleries, and
the UK about 150, and also most of them don’t sell their artworks online. On
the buyer’s side of the equation, if we consider the uncontested Europe leader,
the UK had €231.9 million on sales in 2011. Europe is considered to attract a
particularly affordable offer, with 81% of the artworks sold at less than €5,000.
BUSINESS MODEL
30% commission on sales related to registered artists. 10% commission on
sales related to the art galleries. Also, we have monthly/annually revenues
for both artists and galleries to access an analytics area on their profile at our
website.
TRACTION
In 8 months, we have more than 7500 users, and of those, around 760 are
artists. About the artworks: + 3400 submitted / + 2400 approved / +150 sold.
A new version of the website will be launched at the 28th of February, and we
already have partnerships with 10 galleries from Portugal and 5 galleries from
Spain. And growing until the re-launching day!

9. Problem
In spite of the overwhelming costs involved, even the most developed countries
are still unable to deliver timely, intensive and effective physical rehabilitation
programs to their citizens. Since traditional rehabilitation services are costly
and depend on specialized human resources, it is estimated that the majority of
patients are receiving, on average, less than 2 hours of physical rehabilitation per
week – against the general recommendation of a minimum of 3 hours per day.
Solution
The SWORD system was specifically designed to be used by patients at the
hospital or at home, with little or no supervision, extending the therapeutic
footprint and empowering the patient with his rehabilitation. SWORD enables
patients to accelerate their recovery with a more intensive and a higher quality
therapy. For rehabilitation centers, it allows for a higher profit margin per therapy
unit through a more efficient allocation of specialized human resources.
OUR DEMODAY ASK
Networking and Feedback. We’re multidisciplinary by nature so, independently
of your background, tell us what do you think of our approach, our ambition and
our vision for the healthcare industry. We’re always seeking for advices.
THE TWEET PITCH
At SWORD Health,we’re reinventing the physical rehabilitation
industry with the 1st digital therapy that amplifies therapeutic
effectiveness.
SWORD Health
Market
In the US alone, each year, approximately 795,000 people suffer a stroke. As a
direct consequence, the estimated annual cost for treating and caring for stroke
survivors is set at $36.5 billion. In Europe, stroke accounts for around 2 million
people per year and a cost to the EU economy of €38 billion a year. It is projected
that the prevalence of stroke victims will increase by 25% in the next 20 years.
Business Model
We follow a B2B2P (Business to Business to Patient) model where
rehabilitation centers are our core clients. The SWORD system is licensed on a
subscription basis per-patient inserted into the system.
Traction
Besides being supported by some of the most important rehabilitation
centers in Portugal, Belgium, Italy and Sweden, recently, SWORD Health
signed a partnership with Genesis Rehab, the largest rehabilitation chain in
the United States with more than 1500 rehab gyms, treating 45,000 patients
each day. This partnership was defined at the executive level with the ultimate
objective of a large implementation of the SWORD system in their network of
rehabilitation centers.

Consumer electronics (CE) is growing rapidly and it’s not getting any easier for
consumers to make smart purchases. Relevant shopping information such as

effortlessly display the most relevant to consumers. PepFeed’s technology
makes it possible to help consumers while they’re browsing products online,
or in-store, through browser extensions and mobile apps customized to each
user’s profile.
OUR DEMODAY ASK
Seed investment, Contacts with retailers, PCWs, brands or content publishers
to establish promotional or affiliate partnerships.
THE TWEET PITCH
PepFeed is a shopping assistant that helps consumers
choose their next gadgets wisely while saving time and
money.
Pepfeed
Market
113M people buy CE online in the US alone, generating yearly revenues over
$50B and growing at more than 12% Y/Y. PepFeed is focusing on a couple of
regions besides the US, starting by targeting current users of price comparison
websites (PCWs).
Business Model
Cost per Click and Cost per Acquisition for deals shown, sponsored content
from publishers and brands, in-app purchases and advertisements. Also, API

11. Problem
Many people suffer from pain or lack of strength in their hands. This situation
has a negative impact in people’s lives and there is no commercial solution
available to actively help them in daily activities.
Solution
A system that actively supports weight that otherwise would be supported by
the hand and fingers. It looks like a regular glove, interacts seamlessly with the
user and it’s small enough to be used everyday.
OUR DEMODAY ASK
Contacts for distribution
THE TWEET PITCH
A patented support system that seamlessly improves hand
function. It measures hand activity to provide a natural
interaction and new services.
Nuada
Market
Lack of strength comes naturally to the existing 800 million elderly people and
to the 10 million yearly survivors of stroke worldwide. Hand pain is common to
the 50 million people that suffer from arthritis in the USA alone.
Business Model
Purchase of the physical system by the user’s via specialized distributors.
Software based services allow for an additional monetization of the system
overtime.
Traction
1 major partnership with an industrialization company and 1 investment that
enables the full development of the system so that it can be sold.

Program
#2
What we are looking for
Above all, we are looking for great teams. Our program
is intense, so it requires our teams to give their
absolute best. Skill set, track record, motivation and
resilience are some of the things we will be looking into
when selecting the teams.
We’re also looking for innovation. We are not
necessarily looking for 100% original ideas, but we are
looking for unique execution strategies. We’re looking
to disrupt industries with the startups we work with.
Finally, we only consider teams that already have a
functional minimal viable product. This is the stage
where we can add more value.
How the program looks like
The 2015 Startup Braga Acceleration Program
is starting on April 14 and will run for 3
months with a limited number of teams. This
time the focus will be on Mobile/ eCommerce,
MedTech and Nano Technology.
Week 1 - 3
Define
In the first 3 weeks, the teams will have access to
workshops on Business Model Canvas and Lean
Startup. Using the knowledge and the tools, the teams
will then focus on validating the problem and the
solution.
Week 10 - 12
Pitch
The last two weeks, will be spent
on preparing the pitch and all the
documentation necessary for
potential partners and investors.
Week 4 - 9
Build
In the second phase of the program, the teams
will be focused on building, testing and validating
the minimum viable product and collecting and
incorporating the feedback of potential clients.
