2. From the Editor’s Desk
E3 was absent from the summer video game news cycle (yet again). In its place was a full slate
of on-demand video presentations and live streams full of announcements for this year and the
next.
Personally? I miss the pomp and circumstance of having all of the big announcements come out
during one week. I would actually take vacation time from work so I could relax and watch the
shows as they where streamed. (Longtime EFG fans will note that I was even fortunate enough to
go to the big dance a few times!)
The ESA DID announce a partnership with the folks behind PAX to bring the event back next year.
But, only time will tell whether or not the event will live up to its legacy.
With all of that said, there may not have been an E3, but there where PLENTY of exciting an-
nouncements. The rest of this issue is going to be full of highlights and news from the various
livestreams.
Enjoy!!

RPG Time: The Legend of Wright
Switch — August 18
RPG Time is an indie RPG that looks like the scat-
tered musings of a budding game designer come to
life. Instead of sprites and 3D models, there are figures
drawn in pencil or cut out of cardboard. This papercraft
aesthetic is brilliant and has us really excited to get our
hands on it.
Splatoon 3
Switch — September 9
I never suspected that Splatoon was going to be one of
my family’s favorite franchises. It has probably spent
more cumulative time on our television than Fortnite.
Splatoon 3 has us HUNGRY even if it is more or less
just more Splatoon. That’s good though. We don’t need
a reinvention. We just want an excuse to play in more
SplatFests!
Marvel’s Midnight Suns
PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X/S, PlayStation 4, Xbox One, Switch,
PC — October 7
This one is interesting. We don’t technically know the rating for
it yet. But, it features Marvel characters so I’m going to assume
that it will be rated T for teen. This is a strategy RPG from the
team behind XCOM. The premise is loosely based on a crossover
event featuring supernatural heroes teaming up to fight an army of
demons.
Top 5 Games for the Rest of the Year
It should come as no surprise that the majority of our most anticipated games for the rest of
the year are Nintendo games. The industry is still reeling from the business disruption caused
by COVID so a lot of games are being officially delayed, and many more are taking longer in
development that expected. Nintendo’s big guns (like Breath of the Wild 2) are still on the
horizon, but even their second-tier games can rise above the heap this year.

Madden 23
The big news this year is a significant update to the “Face of
the Franchise” mode. This time around, you play a 5th-year
veteran in a contract year with the team of your choice. This
changes the different activities that you do in between
games and the context of the challenges within games.
FIFA
EA has revealed that this year will be the last game pub-
lished under the FIFA name. They are ending their license
with the organization and publishing future games under the
name “EA Sports FC.”
NBA 2K23
This year's NBA game is going to heavily feature Michael Jor-
dan. (I wonder if they’ll do it again for NBA 2K45?) The jury
is still out on whether or not their microtransaction situation
will get better this time around, though.
Sports Game Updates
Mario + Rabbids Sparks of Hope
Switch — October 20
I still remember the E3 where the first Mario + Rabbids was
announced. It was such a treat to learn about and an even
bigger treat to play. This sequel adds new features and more
characters (including Bowser), but seems to ultimately be
just more of what we got the first time.
Pokémon Scarlet/Violet
Switch — November 18
Ok, so I lied when I said these were all B-tier Nintendo
titles. A new Pokemon generation is always something
to be excited about and this is no exception. The new
region is based loosely on real world Spain and players
will be able to explore it without boundaries for the first
time! That makes it the first true open world in franchise
history.

Capcom officially announced Street Fighter 6 this sum-
mer! It’s official release will be in early 2023, but we can
look forward to more announcements for the rest of the
year.
The highlights:
• Ryu, Chun Li, and Guile are back!
• It will include an “Announcer mode” that will have
voice-over commentary in multiple languages. It will
expand to include personalities from the fighting game
community.
• There will be two control schemes: Modern and
Classic. Classic controls work just like in prior games,
whereas Modern simplifies controls to increase accessi-
bility. This is a great move for Street Fighter considering how difficult
it is to learn some of the complex moves.
Street Fighter 6 is On the Way!
No Final Fantasy News
Square Enix did make several announcements
regarding Final Fantasy XVI, but they, unfor-
tunately, confirmed that it will be rated M. So,
it’s not a game we’ll be talking about on EFG.
(Which is a bummer.)

Attack of the Clones
Nintendo has plenty of genre-defining games
and their success invites competition. Both Su-
per Smash Bros. and Mario Kart have competi-
tors coming out this year that are more than a
little similar. You could almost call them clones!
Super Smash Bros.
Nickelodeon All Star Brawl - ASB features
fan-favorite Nickelodeon characters like the Nin-
ja Turtles,Aang, and Spongebob (it even includes
Garfield the cat).
Multiversus - This is a 2v2 game that encour-
ages players to build cohesive teams of charac-
ters featuring a roster bursting with WB-licensed
characters including Bugs Bunny, Arya Stark,
Batman, and the Iron Giant (just to name a few).
Super Mario Kart
Disney Speed Storm - This is a free to play
Kart Racer featuring Disney and Pixar charac-
ters. It is currently in Beta (a testing phase), but
will be available sometime during Q3 this year.
Nickelodeon Kart Racers 3: Slime Speedway
- Nickelodeon has had kart racers before and they
have been relatively bland. This entry promises
to have a little more variety because of the water/
slime sections of each track.
