Steve Vinay Gunther
What I’ve done
I am founder of the Northern Rivers Gestalt
Institute, and director of Lifeworks. I have 30
years experience as a therapist, coach and
trainer and have been an accredited Career
Counsellor (CDAA) for 22 years. I run Gestalt
training in Japan, China, the USA and Mexico.
I am the author of a self-help book for men
titled Understanding The Woman In Your Life.
As well as teaching and training, I have
a private practice both in Gestalt therapy
and Career Coaching. I also run Family
Constellation workshops and do professional
supervision.
My inspiration
I originally trained as a Gestalt therapist, and
on completion went into private practice.
In 1993 I attended a talk by Richard Nelson
Bolles, author of What Colour is Your
Parachute. I was deeply inspired by his
presentation, and started reading everything
I could on the subject. I went to as many
training workshops as I could, and met other
greats in the field such as Barbara Sher.
I began running 12 week courses for
unemployed groups, taking them through the
kind of processes that Bolles recommends in
his books.
I found that as wonderful as those exercises
were, very few people had the stamina and the
ability to get through their resistance in order
to be able to complete all of them.
I had a number of successes with people
completing my program. However, the 12
week format was limited to people who had
the time to attend.
Focus
With the encouragement of Barbara Sher
(Wishcraft), I sat down and went through all
the materials I had collected and compiled
them into a single extended session. This was
a distillation of all the elements that I found to
be essential to the process.
Clients were pleased with the results, and I
found that I could guarantee a really satisfying
result, by using a holistic approach, and some
key ideas from Bolles (What Color is Your
Parachute?) regarding career selection.
Passing it on
That was over a decade ago. Since then, I have
organised the process further, notated and
transcribed it, and trained others in how to
use it.
Turning 50 a few years ago, I start wanting to
see that what I have learned is passed on to
others. Hence I am now offering this program
to the wider public, in a systematised way.
In this program I share with you the
accumulated experience and techniques I have
developed and refined over the years.

CareerDecision Coaching™
Income & benefits for you
Diversify your income

Having an additional income stream is always
welcome. Career decision coaching™ is another
service you can offer.
The demand

There is a large and mostly untapped market for
career decision coaching™. In these days of fluid
workplaces, people change careers 3-5 times
over the course of their life. They generally need
support in this process.
There are relatively few people working in
the career coaching field, and most rely on
the intensive use of one or two assessment
instruments.
This approach uses a multi-layered process,
holistic process which is more robust, and allows
you to guarantee satisfaction to the client in a
single session.
Immediate results
You can start earning straight away - this is a
complete package with everything you need.
You have two choices - to use the software I
designed, or you can use my paper templates.
Either way, you just have to follow the steps I
provide, including scripting for the session.
Improve your own career
If you are an employee of an HR department
or job agency, you will be uniquely placed to
deliver better outcomes to clients, enhancing
your own career prospects.

If you are in private practice, this expands the
range of services you can offer.
Financial return
In private practice a session of this type is
generally charged out at between $650 –
$950.
For corporates, the rates range from $850 –
$1,600.
At the lowest rate, it will take only two
sessions to get your money back from this
course - a fast turnaround.
It only takes 2 or 3 career clients a month to
significantly boost your income. After doing
the session, its quite likey there will also be
followup work with them in addition.
Cost to you
The course costs $1,250 to purchase. This
entitles you to a lifetime license.

Philosophy and values
The spirit behind this work is helping people
find their passion and true calling in life, and
locating it in the form of a career path. The
approach is based on some central beliefs:
◊ A person’s life purpose is connected to
what they rea lly enjoy doing. Situating
this in a career path is the best basis for a
fulfilling worklife.
◊ It is possible for people to find or create
work that expresses their life purpose,
utilises their skills, meets a need in the
world, and is financially viable.
◊ This provides the best motivation to
support a person through the challenges of
education and job seeking, and significantly
increases the chances of success.
◊ There is power in being proactive. Rather
than looking at ‘what’s out there’ and
settling for second best, this approach
examines how a person can find their ideal
job, in their preferred workplace, working
with their favourite subjects.
◊ Support is essential in the process of
moving towards doing what you love.
Rather than the lone hero model, the focus
is on identifying and enlisting a support
team, and drawing on a range of creative
resources.
The emphasis is on holism – a total approach
to all levels of a person – from purpose in life
down to the practicalities of getting a job.
The ethos is one of authenticity – being
fully yourself, rather than following the
expectations or directives of friends, family
or society. In the words of Joseph Cambell,
‘following your bliss’.

  • 8. Philosophy and values The spirit behind this work is helping people find their passion and true calling in life, and locating it in the form of a career path. The approach is based on some central beliefs: ◊ A person’s life purpose is connected to what they rea lly enjoy doing. Situating this in a career path is the best basis for a fulfilling worklife. ◊ It is possible for people to find or create work that expresses their life purpose, utilises their skills, meets a need in the world, and is financially viable. ◊ This provides the best motivation to support a person through the challenges of education and job seeking, and significantly increases the chances of success. ◊ There is power in being proactive. Rather than looking at ‘what’s out there’ and settling for second best, this approach examines how a person can find their ideal job, in their preferred workplace, working with their favourite subjects. ◊ Support is essential in the process of moving towards doing what you love. Rather than the lone hero model, the focus is on identifying and enlisting a support team, and drawing on a range of creative resources. The emphasis is on holism – a total approach to all levels of a person – from purpose in life down to the practicalities of getting a job. The ethos is one of authenticity – being fully yourself, rather than following the expectations or directives of friends, family or society. In the words of Joseph Cambell, ‘following your bliss’.
