Cognitive development refers to the mental processes of acquiring
knowledge, skills, attitudes, values, and beliefs. It involves learning
how to think logically and solve problems. These processes occur
over time and are influenced by experiences. It helps us make
decisions and take action. Through cognitive development, we get
the tools to understand ourselves and the world around us. We can
communicate effectively with others, make independent choices
and act accordingly based on those choices.

HOW DOES COGNITIVE
DEVELOPMENT HAPPEN?
Cognitive development begins in infancy and continues
through childhood, adolescence, and adulthood. It happens
when we begin to interact with our environment. We learn by
observing what others do and then imitating them. Using our
senses, we acquire information about the world around us and
develop our memory by storing that information. We develop
new skills by practicing techniques repeatedly until they
become second nature.

At around 18-24 months,

STAGE (7 TO 11 YEARS)
At this point in development,
kids still find it hard to
understand abstract and
hypothetical problems that
