2. High Key and Low Key Lighting
High-key lighting:
is a style of lighting for film, television, or photography that aims to reduce
the lighting ratio present in the scene. This was originally done partly for
technological reasons, since early film and television did not deal well
with high contrast ratios, but now is used to suggest an upbeat mood.
Low-key lighting:
is a style of lighting for photography, film or television. It is a necessary element in
creating a chiaroscuro effect. Traditional photographic lighting, three-
point lighting uses a key light, a fill light, and a back light for illumination.
3. Lighting Used In My Genre
(Romance)
In Romantic movies all type of lighting is used.
High key lighting is used to portray happiness, joy
and love.
Low key lighting is used in scene’s where there is sorrow such as sorrow
from heartbreaks or death of a particular person.
Different colored lighting is also used to depict excitement.
4. Lighting Used By Me In My Movie
My movie is based on Romantic genre. In the starting of my movie, I
have used natural light, sunlight from the windows, when jack wakes
up which is also high key lighting.
5. Then in the next scene, jack and Rachel are sitting together. Here
again, I have used high key lighting to help portray the aspect of
romance between them.
6. Then again, here I have used high key lighting to portray
love between them when jack leaves for work.
7. However, in the next few scenes, I have used low key lighting such as,
in the scene when Rachel worried and calls jack but he doesn’t
answer. To show her worry and her tension, I have used low key
lighting.
8. To portray the love between Jack and Lilly, I have used high key
lighting.
But, to show the sorrow of Rachel when she sees them together, I
have used low key lighting.
This shows, that lights used by me in
my movie go with the codes and
Conventions of ‘Romantic Movies’.
