4. HDD Configuration
1. Check the number of installed HDDs.
This number mean the HDD that system detected.
It is recommend to use BRAND NEW disks.
It is recommend to use Surveillance or Enterprise level disks.

2. If the number of disk is incorrect
Please shutdown the SMR8300.
Check the cables attached to HDD, or replace a new one.
3. Confirm the Configuration
Make sure the number of HDD is correct.
Make sure you use proper HDD.(Surveillance or Enterprise level disks).
Make sure the cables attached to HDD with correct order.
6. RAID Configuration
1. Check the RAID Configuration
To have more capacity and longer retention day, you can use Non-RAID with no data protection provided.
3. I/O Throughput and Data Protection
RAID is not only protect your data, but also provide a better I/O throughput.
If the number of camera is larger than 10 in total, we strongly recommend to use RAID5 or RAID6.
2. Installed Enough Drives.
Please check the minimum required of the configuration.
Make sure you already meet the requirements.

8. User Authority and Privilege
1. Change the Hostname
It is recommend to give a meaningful identity to the server.
Please make sure there is no identical name in the network.
2. Setup Administrative Password
The administrative username, admin, is fixed and cannot be
changed or configured
You can just check the box to keep the default password.
Default account and password is admin/admin.
3. User Account Management
You can create other users after the installation is done.
If you change the default password, please make sure you remember it.
If you forget the password, the only way is to contact Surveon Tech support.
10. Time Zone Setting
1. Setup Time Zone
You can find the correct time zone from the dropdown list.
If the time is not correct, you can manually type the correct time.
If you don’t know the correct time zone, you can check: http://www.timeanddate.com/worldclock/
3. Make Sure the Time is Synchronized.
If you use remote client, please make sure the time on server and client is the same.
You can also configure a external NTP server to both server and client.
If you found the time is not correct, please first check the time zone, then configure the time manually

1. Setup Policy
Always recording is suitable for critical usage and sensitive area.
Motion recording is suitable for common usage.
By default, Camera Motion detection is already enabled when adding camera into SMR8300.
2. Display Mode
In local client, recording and display will compete the resource.
You can select the proper policy for your usage.
1. If you have no idea or any particular requirement, select
standard mode as the default option.
2. If you wish to have the maximized recording capacity, you
can select “Recording Capacity Maximized Mode” with
turning off all local live-view

3. Display
If you care about the display, we recommend you to use remote client.
We suggest to use Standard mode for common usage.
You can use remote client to do monitoring in High Quality Viewing Mode.
14. Network configuration
1. Assigned Automatically
When you enable the “Assigned Automatically”
If you have DHCP presented in your network, the NVR gets IP from DHCP server automatically.
If there is no DHCP in your network, the NVR will set a fixed IP to itself, and enable itself as a DHCP server.
3. Make the NVR as a DHCP server.
If your network environment is fully independent.
You can check the “Auto Assign IP Address for Camera”.
It will detect if there is a DHCP server in the subnet.
If no, the NVR will make itself as a DHCP server and set a fixed IP
to itself.
4. Confirm the Configuration
There should be always at most ONE DHCP server in LAN, otherwise your network will crash.
Please make sure the IP address is assigned to ONLY ONE device.
Make sure you use the correct network port, only single LAN, attach the cable to LAN1.
2. Select an option of IP Configuration
If you uncheck the “Assigned Automatically”, you need to select an option.
Choose the 1st option to get the from DHCP server automatically
Choose the 2nd option to set the IP configuration manually.
16. Add cameras
1. Add Cameras – Simple mode
If you use all Surveon cameras, you can just use this option.
All configuration is default value.
All Surveon cameras which are added will be initialized and optimized.
2. Add Cameras – Advanced mode
If you have 3rd party cameras, please choose this option.
You can changed the username and password to the 3rd party cameras.

SSL” option.

1. Enter a valid E-mail address in the Reply Address field.
2. It will be the default sender listed in E-mails sent from the Server.

2. Multiple addresses can be entered by separating individual addresses
with semi -colons “;”.
