  5. From the EDITOR E ffective education is a learning experience. Education brings a natural and lasting change in one’s thinking and ability to do things. Many people have a superficial concept of education; it is compared to taking a certain course or gaining a certain qualification. However, qualifications and courses do not always correspond to effective education. People can take courses without significant permanent change. People can achieve qualifications without change. Education is the process of accelerating learning or acquiring knowledge, skills, values, morals, beliefs, habits, and personal development. Teaching methods include teaching, training, storytelling, discussion, and purposeful research. Education always takes place under the guidance of teachers; however, students can also educate themselves. Education can take place in a formal or informal environment, and any experience that has a formative influence on the way we think, feel or act can be considered educational. The teaching method is called pedagogy. Formal education is often formally divided into
  6. phases, such as kindergarten or pre-school, primary education, secondary education, and then college, university, or apprenticeship. In most regions, education is compulsory until a certain age. Education consists of learning specific skills as well as something less tangible but deeper: giving knowledge, positive judgment, and well-developed wisdom. Education has one of the basic aspects of passing culture from generation to generation, but it is more of a formal process of education and learning that takes place around the school. Malaysia is a diverse, federal governance nation that runs on constitutional monarchy rules. Malaysia has a rich history of culture that resembles their attire & architectural designs. It stands between western & traditional cultures in every aspect of growth. Malaysia is regarded as one of the favourite destination for Inernational students in Hospitality industry. As we are crossing our traditional boundaries, the education system is accepting new methods to transform the upcoming generation. Malaysia’s Education Ministry took the necessary steps to make sure students learn the skills which will propel them towards success. To make these efforts worthy, schools took an active part in advancing their system, which resulted in a better society. In our edition of The 10 Best International Schools in Malaysia 2022, on the cover Page, we have Mohd Fadzil Hashim, CEO & Founder of Brainy Bunch International Islamic Montessori School. The institute fosters Islamic practices in kids at a very young age, making them good citizens of the world. SwiftNLift is not just a magazine. We aim to cover all other topics which account for the betterment of our society. We always try to come up with articles covering the latest trends and essential subjects. We as a team have worked hard for our readers and introduced to you this edition. I hope you enjoy reading this piece of our efforts! Nilesh Sabe Chief Editor - Nilesh Sabe

  11. Reason behind creating Brainy Bunch The idea of setting up a school in general came when I was looking for an ideal school for my children. As Muslim parents, I want them to have a strong uphold in academic excellence as well as being deeply rooted in understanding and applying the Islamic values in their way of lives. Brainy Bunch was created with the sole intention of providing this platform: where the emphasis on academic excellence is balanced against the quest for a strong Islamic studies foundation. It was not an easy feat to find the right environment for my children at that time, as schools with good academic credentials do not put much emphasis on the spiritual aspects, and vice versa. I was also looking for a school that can provide English language as the medium of studies, and most Islamic schools were conducted in either Malay or Arabic. At that time, I was also first introduced to the Montessori Method of learning which piqued my interest as it aligned with my mission and vision for the school. Challenges on the path Likeanyotherbusinesses,Ifacedtheusualoperating Brainy Bunch International Brainy Bunch International Islamic Montessori School Islamic Montessori School Mohd Fadzil Hashim CEO & Founder
  12. and management challenges. However, the biggest challenge is the acceptance of the public at large who are not fully exposed to the Montessori system of learning. Montessori learning does not require the students to sit for any exams, and that brought upon a lot of skepticism and apprehension from the community. Shifting the mindset of Malaysian parents, who are fixated with the notion of gradings in schools to an independent, child-approached education with no ‘A’s to boast, was a herculean task for us. Not only do we need to deal with the usual challenges that come with setting up a school, we have to educate and manage parents’ expectations of our schools’ offerings. Vision & Mission Mission: My immediate mission is to produce a new breed of dynamic Muslims with Al-Quran and Hadith as their true guidance in life, and who are able to converse fluently in English. As we grow, we look to coordinate the efforts of parents, teachers and community members to empower all our students to develop, through education, the knowledge, skills and values needed to create better lives for themselves and build a more just, ideal society based on strong Islamic values. I believe that superior education is the right of every child to enable them to make their way in life. In our schools, our aim is to offer our young boys and girls a sense of identity, coupled with a strong academic grounding. This will prepare them for primary and secondary education and contribution to the wider multicultural world as morally-guided citizens, role models and leaders. Vision: Our vision is to become a leading educational institution with a commitment to provide sought- after graduates possessing the highest level of attitude and essential life skills. We believe that life skills play a vital role in helping our children become extraordinary individuals that will impact not only themselves but the communities around them. Brainy Bunch expansion to date We purchased our first Brainy Bunch kindergarten in 2008. We took over a small campus in Saujana Impian, Kajang, and operated it with 6 staff members and about 60 students. To-date, we have over 9,000 students in our pre- schoolsandinternationalschoolsinMalaysiaalone, spanning over 103 preschools and 3 International Schools. We have 4 campuses in Singapore, 2 in Indonesia, 1 in Brunei, 1 in Turkey and 1 Charity School in Gaza. Courses and Programs Our 3 main offerings are Islamic, Montessori and Cambridge. For our Islamic courses, we offer Quranic reading and memorisation, Aqeedah and Fiqh. This governs the children’s understanding and most importantly, their assimilation of Islamic practices in their day to day lives. Students learn to understand, practise and teach it to their peers. A Montessori classroom approach of mixed ages sets up a perfect environment for this to happen. Montessorilearningmethodisintroducedtoyoung children as early as 18 months and throughout their Elementary education. It aids children’s learning using unique and fun learning tools called the Montessori apparatus. The philosophy behind the Montessori teaching is for the students to gain
  13. independence, freedom of choice, confidence and develop their fine motor skills at a young age, and pique their curiosity and interest in the topics being taught. Children learn to obtain mastery over the subjects without the stress of learning for the sake of sitting for an exam. Children became more active and enthusiastic in a lively and active classroom environment. Our International School in Cyberjaya is an official Cambridge Exam centre. We offer a 5 year- long High School studies comprising Preparatory, Freshmen, Sophomore, Junior and Senior classes. Students are exposed to the Cambridge IGCSE method of learning, following strictly to the Cambridge syllabus laid out through the scheme of work and lesson plans. Unlike SPM, students have the choice to take the exam at any time they feel they are ready. Our youngest student sat for her IGCSE at the age of 14 years old. On top of the Cambridge syllabus, students are also imbued with a strong foundation of the Islamic education. Again, the learning of the Islamic studies is for their daily practises based on the understanding of the Quran and the Hadith or the way of life of our Prophet Muhammad pbuh. High School students are also actively involved in community services, taking part in external competitions, aswellaslearningadvancedpractical skills on top of their academic commitments. We are registered under the District School Sports Council, where we send our students to take part in sports competitions such as Football, Netball, Rugby, Basketball as well as Track & Field, Cross Country and Chess competitions. About Brainy SPICE The Brainy SPICE is a complete education system developed to fulfill our children’s development that will help them attain success in both worlds. It comeswiththeTargetPlanthattheentireAcademic Board has come up with to ensure that our aims and goals for the educational achievements as well as the other aspects of the children’s developments are met. It consists of 5 components as follows: Spiritual, Physical, Intellectual, Creativity and Emotional. In Brainy Bunch, children are taught and exposed to these 5 elements to ensure a holistic development of a child. This is a complete system to ensure harmony and equity in every aspect of the child’s progress. We want to produce students who are not only successful academically, but also spiritually and socially. Uniqueness about Brainy Bunch It is started by parents for parents. We have our own Diploma in Early Childhood Education as well as Diploma in Islamic Montessori that we extend to teachers. We teach our children to teach other children, even their own siblings at home! We constantly improve ourselves by learning best practices from countries like Japan and Finland, and incorporate it in our lesson plans. Effect of Covid19 pandemic & Solutions implemented Of course the pandemic affected everybody, no one was spared from it. When the financial crisis started hitting us, we lost some teachers but we also saw the loyal and resilient ones staying behind
  14. to support us. Those who stayed put in their hearts and soul to make the new learning environment (online) effective and engaging for students. We also suffered a lot of withdrawals as the parents of Brainy Bunch were financially affected as well. This year, we managed to welcome them back and in fact increased the number of students’ registration by almost 15% this year. Opinion on changing trends in the education sector Change is absolutely necessary for the education system. Students should be taught according to their present needs. Education should not be static. We must adjust accordingly to follow the needs of the students. We need to address the changes that go through every generation. Teachers have a major responsibility to create a favourable environment during the lessons so that students will feel comfortable communicating their doubts and problems. ☐ Founded in the Year: 2010 ☐ Founding Member: Mohd Fadzil Hashim ☐ Location: Malaysia, Singapore, Indonesia, Palestine, Brunei ☐ Website : https://brainybunch.com/

  37. New way of Education 38 MARCH 2022 SwiftNLift Over the years, there have been obvious changes in the teaching style. In contrast to the same old recitation exercises to teach students memorization and recitation, now with modern teaching methods, interactive methods of teaching have been introduced, and the result can be seen. It is an education reform that offers a completely different angle of teaching and learning as modern teaching methods do not treat all students at the same level of their comprehension ability, unlike the traditional method of teaching. Rather than being simply teacher-based, modern teaching methods focus more on inquiry, demonstration, interpretation, practical, collaborative methods, and are more activity-based. The new teaching method which we call the modern teaching method is more activity-based and focuses on the mind of the learner which engages them in the whole learning process. In the modern teaching method, curriculum teaching and planning are done by making the learner the primary goal. In this way, learners actively participate in the whole process to build their knowledge and sharpen their skills; It is also called the constructivist approach. Alternatively, the mentor or teacher only helps and guides them to focus on the objectives of the subject. All this is done by engaging in activities and adopting innovative modern teaching methods. The new demand of the era or the need of the hour for the students is to adopt contemporary teaching methods which will help in reducing the competition among the students, fostering collaboration, and also fostering a healthy study environment. Things To Look Forward  Skill Development: Even six years after the formation of the Ministry of SkillDevelopment, theMinistryofSkillDevelopment and Entrepreneurship (MSDE) is scattered and
  38. 39 MARCH 2022 SwiftNLift scattered. It is being monitored by 17 different ministrieswithoutanycoordinationintheirrespective areas. Presently the ‘Skill India’ mission is going on in full swing.  The Metaverse or ‘Mirror World’, or ‘Special Internet’, or ‘AR Cloud’, which is a virtual learning experience combined with physical reality, is the future of education in the years to come. Online learning will be more realistic with the help of the Metaverse, which incorporates the concept of Augmented and Virtual Reality (AR and VR). The year 2021 had a large virtual format, almost real, like a platform to host school events. With the arrival of the Metaverse event, the online classroom will feel more real than ever. One can be both offline and online at the same time, making for a real learning experience.  Blockchain in Education for Data Security: The use of blockchain in education is still in its infancy, but it seems that the future is getting closer to using blockchain as a tool for data security. A 2019 Gartner survey shows that around 20% of higher education institutions will use blockchain in the next two years. It will help in streamlining the tedious process of verification, transfer of records, records of employees, distinctive credentials of students, making the process easy and error-free. Why is modern teaching needed? Education is the need of the hour as it creates a literate society and motivation and instruction are very important in the process of educating the society and teachers, guides and administrators are responsible for motivating the learners. The literacy rate will be leveled by providing education to the majority of society. However, to some extent over time, learners demand new techniques and methods to acquire knowledge that not only provide them with expertise in theoretical studies but also provide them with practical knowledge, sharpen their skills, and in any way. Let’s ensure to educate to face the challenges. Modern teaching methods help in achieving the requirements of modern times. Conclusion Technologydominateslearning.Thequalityofsympathy, kindness, and giving back to society resides in the heart. The pandemic left children at home without a social life. Nevertheless, the year 2022 will open children up to the real world with more kindness as they will understand the value of many that they remembered during their home studies. At this time, it is necessary to incorporate modern teaching methods as it opposes the idea of repetition of curriculum and traditional forms of memorization to educate the students. To develop decision-making skills, problem-solving skills, and critical thinking abilities, modern teaching methods are best suited. New methods of teaching make students more productive and encourage them to collaborate. Both methods are effective but what will be done in the meantime remains a question, and clearly, the importance of modern teaching methods can be felt. - Amrin Ahmed
