Martin Zuch came from a financial background and now runs Beesweet, a company producing and selling honey and it's by-products in Zambia. He talked us through the opportunities, challenges and lessons learned from his experiences there.

Beesweet gives special attention to women Households responsible for keeping the apiary clean Almost 1000 families have between 5 and 10 hives To date a total of 8,000 hives are distributed in the bush. Target - to raise this number to 30,000 within 3 years
- Nearly 8,000 hives and 4,000 swarm boxes produced to date in the workshop Each hive has record of performance and events such as absconding, number of combs and amounts harvested

- The pollination of crops and maintenance of biodiversity. Propolis is a medicinal marvel. Research shows it offers antiseptic, antibacterial, antifungal and antiviral properties. Propolis – keep homes dry, draught proof and hygenic

- Bee Sweet is one of many businesses started over the last 6 years, including a banana plantation, Tilapia fish project. Main objective has always been to create wealth for local communities. Built school in 2006, was 60 kids, now 400. 2010 expanded to Ethiopia where started coffee export company.
