Easter Island, also known as Rapa Nui, is located in the south Pacific Ocean and is best known for its large stone statues called Moai. The Moai are massive stone heads that originally stood on stone platforms called ahus to help them stand upright. Easter Island has over 1,000 Moai statues, as well as three active volcanoes, though it now only has around 2,000 residents and no true houses, instead using overturned canoes for shelter.
