Hybrid AC/DC Smart Micro Gird Power System Design
o Developed smart grid islanding detection methodology with active and reactive power support
from DC micro grid.
o Implemented smart switching, fault detection, isolation & restoration (FDIR/FLISR),
load-shedding, static Volt Ampere Reactive (VAR) compensation and frequency regulation
functions into the smart micro grid.
o Built lab-scaled Photovoltaic (PV) emulator and implemented high efficiency Perturb and Observe
(P&O) Maximum Power Point Tracking (MPPT) techniques.
Plug-in Electric Vehicles (PEVs) Smart Parking Garage Hybrid Power System Energy Management
o Designed fuzzy logic based PEVs smart charging algorithms with different scales to limit
charging impacts and fulfill Vehicle to Grid (V2G) services.
o Developed economic analysis method for smart grid planning and operation in market trends and
consulting level.
o Developed and implemented PEVs car park emulator hybrid power system.
o Hardware based implementation of the V2G, Vehicle to Vehicle (V2V) and Vehicle to House
(V2H) functions to the PEVs car park emulator hybrid power system.

Energy Storage System Modeling and Power Management
o Built high accurate lithium-ion battery State of Charge (SOC) and thermal estimation model.
o Developed lithium-ion battery bank SOC & thermal self-balancing circuit with over heat and over
charging/discharging protection functions.
o Proposed Genetic Algorithms (GA) based energy storage system optimization methodology for
smart grid with high penetrations of renewable energy resources.
High Efficiency Power Electronics Devices Development
o Fabricated high efficiency bidirectional DC/DC converter and grid-tied bidirectional AC/DC
inverter hardware.
o Developed STM32F micro-controller based driver circuit for bidirectional DC/DC converter and
DSpace based driver circuit for grid-tied bidirectional AC/DC inverter.
o Implemented Zigbee wireless transmitters networks for power electronics devices remote control.
o Designed and implemented control, real-time monitoring, and protection of multiple power
electronics converters for the hybrid smart grid with pulse load and renewable energy resource.
Application of Intelligent Systems for Power System Operation
o Developed Artificial Neural Network (ANN) based load forecasting methodology for local load
forecasting.
