This document summarizes a thesis examination about using the messaging app Telegram to enhance English learning for 10th grade students at SMKN 4 Malang high school during the COVID-19 pandemic. It found that using Telegram increased class attendance and student achievement. Telegram was effective because it allows easy sharing of text, audio, video and images. However, its video calling is limited to two people and it lacks a stories feature. The researcher concludes that Telegram successfully enhanced distance learning and suggests schools continue using such platforms to facilitate online education.
4. Introduction
This article is about the use of telegram, the essential of telegram, and identify the
strengths and weaknesses of telegram in enhancing 10th graders of SMKN 4 Malang in
English in pandemic Covid-19.

Currently, several schools are implementing E-learning because of pandemic so the
researcher tries to seek the E-Learning models which is needed and suitable for her
students and at last the researcher found that telegram is the most suitable platform of
E-Learning for her students in SMKN 4 Malang

The previous literature reviews said that telegram is very useful and good to be applied in E-learning.
And the researcher had proved that the telegram is also good to be implemented in her English class as a
media of communication in her E-learning.
The table below shows the result of the study on the attendance and the achievement of the tenth graders
of SMKN 4 Malang. It can be seen that the telegram is very useful. According to Surya Agsha (2015)
the characteristics of useful learning are:
• It can help the students to reach the instructional goals of the teacher.
• It gives attractive learning which makes the students active and they can reach the goal of the teacher.
• It has teaching and learning media which support the teaching learning process.

• It can be concluded that the use of Telegram can enhance the 10th graders students’ attendance and
achievement of SMKN 4 Malang in English in pandemic Covid-19 so the Telegram that is used by the 10th
graders teachers of SMKN 4 Malang in English in pandemic Covid-19 is very successful.
• The strengths of using Telegram are the design of Telegram makes it easier for users to send text messages,
audio, videos, images, and stickers to each other securely, Telegram is a free app (no ads nor fees), Telegram
sends messages faster because it is cloud-based, Telegram is lighter when running because it has smaller
application size, and also Telegram can be accessed from various devices concurrently such as, smartphones,
tablets, computers, laptops, and others.
• The weaknesses of using Telegram found in English class carried out by the 10th graders English teachers of
SMKN 4 Malang in pandemic Covid-19 is video call feature can be used only by two persons and no stories
feature.
21. Suggestion

Based on the research results, the researcher hoped that the use of telegrams in E-learning as a means of
communication will not only stop in one year but can be used continuously and other schools can also apply
what has been applied there. Because with the limitations of students and teachers in implementing online
learning, telegram can make it all easier. Easy access does not require expensive fees to access it, the memory
storage is also large, and most importantly it will not be lost even if the student deletes the application.
