ABOUT THE EVENT
Women make up 67% of the Victorian Public Sector yet at an executive
level they hold only 35% of the senior level leadership positions, according
to State Services Authority annual ‘State of the Public Sector in Victoria
Report 2012’. Equal gender representation at all levels is a concept that
is in reach but there are still a variety of organisational, cultural and social
challenges that continue to make it difficult for women to access, acquire
and remain in senior level leadership roles.
The Public Sector Women in Leadership Victoria Summit 2015, is not
an event about diversity and statistics, it is about empowering executive
women to embark on their desired leadership journey and giving them
the vital tools and strategies to succeed. The Summit will provide an
inspiring networking and learning and development platform for executive
women to establish a community of support and practice and to gain new
perspectives in driving their career.
An outstanding speaker faculty will bring content to life, as they provide
insight, share experiences and provide practical advice on tackling
problems and overcoming barriers to advancement in the Victorian Public
Sector. The Summit also explores what can be done by employers, leaders
and women themselves to navigate these challenges and facilitate the
transition to senior level leadership and will examine the complex and ever
changing nature of the Victorian Public Sector and how peak performance
can be cultivated in this unique culture. The event will equip emerging
and existing female leaders with the strategies and skills to advance
successfully and reach their career goals in the 2015 Victorian Public
Sector climate and beyond.

Emotional Agility and Resilience: The Key to Optimising Your Leadership Potential and Influence
Working in an emotionally charged environment is a reality for most senior leaders - whether it be increasing pressure to compete for business, a
focus on building and sustaining key relationships, creating high performing teams or retaining talent pools. Yet few leaders really understand how to
manage the psychological mechanisms that play out in the workplace or how to bring the best of themselves and their people to work. In fact, many
leaders apply untested assumptions about the human experience and as a result, create cultures that limit rather than facilitate peak performance.
The experience of female leaders in the Public Sector is a case in point. Significant under-representation of women at senior levels combined with the
human propensity to interact with others of the same gender, have led to a paucity of female role models and limited access to influential networks
and sponsors. Added to this challenge is the double bind facing many high potential women: the mismatch between conventionally feminine qualities
and the capabilities assumed necessary for successful leadership.
Why focus on emotional agility and resilience? Research in the fields of positive psychology and neuroscience provide convincing evidence of
the benefits of developing self-aware, self-assured and authentic leaders to achieve challenging performance targets and build influence with key
stakeholders. This masterclass will provide you with practical, values-based techniques, to enable the Victorian Public Sector’s female talent pool
to understand culture and their roles in leading it. This experience will equip you with resources to navigate through organisational, cultural and
social barriers to build profile and expand networks, initiate conversations and facilitate feedback to develop your careers and create a more flexible
workplace culture. This is an ideal opportunity to build insight and understanding of how your relationships with your ‘internal dialogue’ can limit your
capacity for resilience. It will further develop your toolkit to access role models whose styles and behaviours you can observe and experiment with to
integrate with your own strengths and values. Rather than attempting to train women to be more like men, this experience will help women uncover
their strengths to internalise and celebrate their leadership identities.
This highly interactive, experiential workshop will help you to:
• Normalise and share the experiences of high potential women
• Access networks and genuine career sponsors
• Gain insight and clarity to capitalise on your unique leadership strengths
• Develop a sense of purpose and internalise your leadership identity
• Learn strategies to build cleaner relationships with inner dialogue, developing emotional agility, resilience and self-assurance
• Become more mindful leaders and role models
