Did you know that Google handles 2 million searches per second? How Google became the #1 search engine: http://buff.ly/1AyKwFV
Google started out as a research project by Larry Page and Sergey Brin while students at Stanford University in 1996. Page and Brin originally called their search engine "BackRub". They eventually changed the name to Google, a play on the world googol. The name was picked to indicate that the search engine could provide large quantities of information. Google quickly surpassed all other search engines and its homepage loads the fastest of any site, handling some 2 million searches per second. Today, the company has grown to include other internet-related services such as online advertising, cloud computing, email, street maps and entertainment platforms to name a few.
