5G O-RU的首批O-RAN认证。O-RAN一致性认证由中关村泛联院OTIC认证中心颁发。是德科技提供先进的设计和验证解决方案,旨
在加速创新,创造一个安全互联的世界。
MICAS 集团董事长、ASTRI前首席执行官 Hugh Chow 先生表示:“得益于是德科技成熟的O-RU测试解决方案和专业的技术支
持,MICAS的O-RU获得了全球首批 O-RAN 证书。MICAS是世界级的独立设计公司,提供各类信号链的参考解决方案,包括先

今年早些时候,O-RAN联盟与 OTIC(Open Testing and Integration Centers)合作推出了认证计划(Certificate and Badging
Program)。O-RAN Certificate表明该设备或功能符合O-RAN规范,而O-RAN Badge则确认O-RAN解决方案的互操作性或端到端的功
能。O-RAN Certificate和Badge由OTIC颁发,OTIC提供协同、开放和公正的工作环境,以确保O-RAN产品和解决方案测试的一致性
和有效性。
O-RAN联盟、O-RAN 技术指导委员会联席主席易芝玲博士表示:“O-RAN 认证计划旨在为确保O-RAN产品的互操作性和一致

推进我国移动通信产业繁荣发展。”
KORA是一套全面的O-RAN测试解决方案,涵盖早期的硅前开发到系统集成。这使O-RAN供货商、移动运营商、服务提供商、系统
集成商和OTIC能够通过加速O-RAN的开发、认证、标记、集成和部署的测试自动化来验证整个网络生命周期中的一致性、互操作
性、性能和安全性。
是德科技副总裁兼无线测试事业部总经理曹鹏表示:“O-RAN认证 5G O-RU 需要对31个测试用例进行广泛测试,这些测试用
例经过验证,以确保符合O-RAN WG4开放式前传(OFH)控制、用户、同步和管理(CUSM)平面技术规范。是德科技很高兴与
MICAS和中关村泛联院OTIC认证中心合作实现这一重要里程碑。我们祝贺他们的5G O-RU获得了首批O-RAN认证。”
是德科技是用于O-RU认证测试的O-RAN联盟WG4一致性测试规范的主要编辑和贡献者。是德科技还是用于O-RU认证流程的O-RAN

accelerate innovation to connect and secure the world, announced that the Keysight Open Radio Access Network Architect (KORA)
solutions enabled MICAS to obtain one of the first O-RAN certifications for its 5G Open RAN Radio Unit (O-RU). The O-RAN Conformance
Certification was issued by the Asia & Pacific OTIC in PRC (APOP).
MICAS Group Chairman, former CEO of ASTRI, Mr. Hugh Chow, said "The MICAS O-RU has been awarded one of the first O-RAN
certificates, thanks to Keysight's mature O-RU testing solution and professional technical support. MICAS is a world class Independent

Earlier this year, the O-RAN ALLIANCE launched its Certification and Badging program in cooperation with Open Testing and Integration
Centers (OTIC). O-RAN certificates state that an equipment or function is conformant to O-RAN specifications, whereas the O-RAN badges
confirm interoperability or end-to-end functionality of an O-RAN solution. O-RAN certificates and badges are issued by the OTICs, which
provide collaborative, open and impartial working environment to ensure consistency and quality of testing of O-RAN products and
solutions.
"The O-RAN Certification and Badging program is designed to provide confidence in ensuring the interoperability and conformance of O-
RAN products," said Dr. Chih-Lin I, co-chair of the O-RAN Technical Steering Committee, O-RAN ALLIANCE. "Congratulations to MICAS,
Keysight and APOP for achieving this new milestone. We are looking forward to issuing additional certificates and badges to other
ecosystem partners in the very near future, which will help accelerate the availability of O-RAN technologies and solutions for global

Zhang Ping, Academician of CAE and president of the ZGC Institute of Ubiquitous-X Innovation and Applications said, "Among the first O-
RAN approved OTICs, and as the only OTIC in China mainland, APOP focuses on advanced ICT research and promoting productization of
5G O-RAN solutions." As a third-party independent testing facility in line with O-RAN ALLIANCE principles, it aims to provide open, fair and
robust testing environments for vendors. The successful testing and the first certificate issued with MICAS and Keysight reflects APOP's
commitment."
KORA is a comprehensive suite of O-RAN test solutions that span early pre-silicon development to system integration. This enables O-
RAN vendors, mobile operators, service providers, system integrators and OTICs to verify conformance, interoperability, performance

近日,中关村泛联院OTIC(Open Test and Integration Center)认证中心(Asia & Pacific
OTIC in PRC, APOP)完成对深圳密卡思 O-RU ZTR9604A的测试认证。本次测试认证是由
厂商申请,在中立的OTIC实验室使用第三方仪表完成的。经OTIC认证中心测试认定被测产
品通过全部选定的测试用例,符合无线云网络前传接口一致性认证要求,给予颁发一致性认
证。本次认证是无线云网络认证体系的全球首发,也是国内设备首次获得该认证,将为我国
设备出海打下坚实的基础。
中关村泛联院院长张平院士表示,中关村泛联院OTIC认证中心作为全球首批,中国大陆唯一
的OTIC官方授权认证中心,从建立之初就积极推动产业发展,主动带领仪表厂家和各个设备
厂家充分沟通,通力合作。在疫情肆虐的当下,能完成全球首个O-RU产品认证,实属不易
。一致性测试认证是无线云网络认证体系的重要一环,在此基础上将进一步开展互操作测试
认证和端到端测试认证,对被测产品进行更加全面的评价。希望中关村泛联院能够吸引越来
越多的厂家和仪表合作伙伴,共同推进我国移动通信产业繁荣发展。
本次认证测试基于无线云网络前传接口一致性测试规范4.0版本,测试了所有28个必测用例
及附加的3个条件选择用例,共计31个用例,其中,控制面和用户面用例11个,管理面用例
18个,同步面用例2个,测试用例采用是德科技测试环境认证。本次测试中相当部分用例是
业界首次执行,无前例可循,测试团队统一各方对测试规范的理解,不断迭代接口实现,最
终保障测试顺利完成。本次认证测试表明,被测产品O-RU前传接口的一致性及完备性,符
合国际技术规范要求,具备国际运营商要求的一致性互联能力,为我国自主创新产品走向国
际市场奠定了重要基础。
中关村泛联院OTIC认证中心(Asia & Pacific OTIC in PRC)于2021年11月8日获得OTIC资质,
是全球首批、中国大陆唯一认证机构。中心隶属中关村泛联移动通信技术创新应用研究院(简称
中关村泛联院),后者是由中国移动、北京邮电大学和TD产业联盟三家单位发起成立的创新型研
发机构。未来,中关村泛联院OTIC认证中心将提供更多、更全面的无线云网络测试认证服务,扩
大中国企业在世界范围内的影响力,助力国内自主创新产品出海走向国际。

solutions to help accelerate innovation to connect and secure the world, participated in the fourth global PlugFest event
organized by the O-RAN ALLIANCE , accelerating development of Open RAN (O-RAN) technologies with open standard
interfaces, intelligence and security.
Keysight Open RAN Architect (KORA) solution portfolio enabled 15 vendors, 4 mobile operators and 2 Open Testing and
Integration Centers (OTIC) at 3 PlugFest venues and 5 labs across Asia, Europe and North America to verify integration of
multi-vendor network functions and compliance to O-RAN specifications.
Keysight collaborated with leading vendors and mobile operators on industry first demonstrations in key areas of
innovation including:
• Evaluation and assessment of energy savings features using live networks traffic profiles which have shown
significant reduction in energy consumption for a multi-vendors cloud-native O-RAN system.
• Enablement of RAN Intelligent Controller (RIC) assisted artificial intelligence / machine learning (AI/ML)
optimization for energy savings and admission control use cases, as well as an orchestration framework that
supports rapid deployment of test and validation for near-real time RICs and xApps.
• Pre-certification testing of the O-RAN Radio Unit (O-RU), automated security testing for DevSecOps with 3GPP
Security Assurance Specification (SCAS) test cases, Denial of Service (DoS) and fuzzing attacks simulations and
performance testing of O-RAN Xhaul transport network elements' fronthaul implementation under real-world
conditions.

Keysight Open RAN Architect (KORA) solution portfolio enabled more than 40 vendors, 12 mobile operators and 5 Open Testing
and Integration Centers (OTIC) to verify integration of multi-vendor network functions and compliance to O-RAN specifications.

Energy efficiency has never been more relevant than it is today. Having reached its target of powering 100% of the company’s existing
European networks from renewable sources, Vodafone is turning its attention to the technology that will power its network in the future. It
is ensuring that next generation Open Radio Access Networks (RANs) are as energy efficient as possible.
At an industry event run under the auspices of the O-RAN ALLIANCE, called Global PlugFest Spring 2022, Vodafone and several other
companies last week demonstrated energy saving techniques in a multi-vendor Open RAN environment.
Exceeding the energy efficiency of today’s networks
Vodafone Open RAN Senior Engineer, Nikoleta Patroni, explained: “Our plan is to have 30% of all Vodafone’s EU mobile sites on Open RAN
by 2030. Now when we introduce new technologies that provide customers with an even better service, we don’t have to compromise our
commitment to the environment.”
She continued: “We plan to exceed the energy efficiency of today’s mobile networks. To achieve this, we need a standardised approach to
evaluating, testing, measuring, and monitoring energy consumption of dis-aggregated multi-vendor Open RAN. This will provide a greater
degree of transparency and help accelerate the acceptance of Open RAN technology for larger-scaled commercial deployments.”
9-12 per cent reduction in energy consumption
Using a dedicated facility for experimenting on the future of mobile networking called the POWDER laboratory at the University of Utah,
home to 35,000 students, Vodafone, Wind River, Intel, Keysight Technologies and Radisys duly delivered. They successfully reduced the
power consumption of an Open RAN infrastructure by 9% and 12%, during high and low mobile traffic peak scenarios respectively.
These traffic peaks mirror those typically experienced during busy periods of use on a live mobile network such as during commuting hours,
and after school, as well as quiet times when most of us are asleep. It is the first time Open RAN energy savings have been measured using
real-life traffic scenarios.
Future tests in a live environment
The test used both simulated and live, non-customer traffic, with both ‘high-peak’ and ‘low-peak’ results showing an improvement over a
typical traditional RAN installation. Nikoleta explained that further tests need to be carried out to ensure the energy efficiency gains secured
in a controlled laboratory can be replicated across multiple Open RAN sites supporting actual customer traffic.
“Energy efficiency is a key sustainability goal for companies around the world. Keysight is focused on partnering and co-innovating with
many vendors and operators to accelerate commercial-scale deployments of 5G and meet 6G requirements to achieve that aim,” said
Giampaolo Tardioli, vice president and general manager of Keysight’s Network and Operators group.
“We need the industry to pull together”
Nikoleta concluded: “We have an opportunity to introduce greener technology that at the same time delivers even better connectivity for
customers. But we can’t do it alone, we need the entire industry to pull together, and the O-RAN ALLIANCE and the Work Group 6 provides
the best environment for vendors and operators to work together and align the Industry on this important topic.”

架构的GOLDEN HUB。
该GOLDEN HUB是符合无线云网络架构标准的4G/5G前传网关。GOLDEN HUB可支持
ORAN 7-2 定义的eCPRI 标准接口和 OTIC定义的CPRI标准接口,面向5G室内分布场景

Vodafone switches on first 5G Open RAN site
Vodafone plans to have 2,500 Open RAN sites live by 2027.
Last month, the UK Government and telecoms operators announced shared ambitions to expand support for the OpenRAN
ecosystem. Vodafone has championed the OpenRAN ecosystem since its conception in 2016 and is actively using OpenRAN
across many parts of the UK. To celebrate the deployment of the site, the first 5G video call over OpenRAN infrastructure was
made by Vodafone UK’s Chief Network Officer Andrea Dona to the Minister for Digital Infrastructure Julia Lopez on 11 January.
The installation of equipment at the site marks a number of firsts, including:
• The beginning of the first scaled OpenRAN project in Europe, with 2,500 sites committed by 2027
• The first 5G OpenRAN site
• The first time OpenRAN technology has been deployed on a UK macro site to carry live customer traffic
Andrea Dona, Chief Network Officer, Vodafone UK, said: “This is the beginning of a new chapter for the mobile industry. Our
team has been working tirelessly to take OpenRAN technology from a theory in our lab to our customers in the real world – it’s
remarkable how much has been achieved in such a short period of time. OpenRAN as a concept is only five years old, and we’re
already fundamentally changing how we deploy connectivity infrastructure. This is a watershed moment in the telecoms
industry, and a catalyst for change and evolution.”
As part of the First Site Installation (FSI), the following OpenRAN-compliant technology will be deployed:
• Samsung virtualized Radio Access Network (vRAN) Solutions, as well as technical, product and integration support
• Dell open hardware servers
• Intel technologies to enable optimized solutions, including Intel Xeon processors, workload acceleration and connectivity
• Wind River Studio for management of containerised OpenRAN CU/DU workloads, automation, orchestration, and lifecycle
management of network functions
• Capgemini Engineering and Keysight Technologies have provided testing and integration services in the Vodafone lab to
ensure interoperability of the multi-vendor ecosystem.
OpenRAN 4G and 5G antennas from Samsung and NEC will be deployed from mid-2022. Once interoperability tests for these
radio units have been completed in the lab, the units can be deployed in a ‘plug and play’ manner on the existing OpenRAN
infrastructure.
Scott Bryden, Vice President and General Manager of Keysight’s Operator Industry Solutions Unit, said: “Keysight is delighted to
support Vodafone with solutions that test and validate the capabilities essential to creating robust networks based on

Orange inaugurates the first laboratory in France dedicated to Open RAN technology
Orange inaugurates this Wednesday, November 10th its Open RAN Integration Center, dedicated to Open RAN
technology (Open Radio Access Networks), a reference technology for future mobile networks. This testing and
integration space, which will enable companies from the Open RAN ecosystem to test and validate their products and
services, and thus accelerate the development of this technology, is the first of its kind to open in France.
The Orange Open RAN Integration Center inaugurated on Wednesday 10th November, is located at Orange Gardens
in Châtillon, near Paris. It will be accessible to equipment suppliers of the Open RAN ecosystem, start-ups and
system integrators, wishing to test the operation and interoperability of their components with those of other suppliers.
The Open RAN Integration Center network will also be remotely accessible.
The objective of the Open RAN Integration Center is to allow, in the long term, the deployment of networks capable of
working with hardware and software from different suppliers.
This laboratory - the first to be dedicated to Open RAN technology in France and the 4th in Europe – was awarded
the OTIC (Open Testing and Integration Center) label by the O-RAN Alliance, of which Orange is a founding member.
Several partners, that are Open RAN hardware or software developers, will test their products in this new testing
center, including:

▪ AW2S / SERMA : radio product supplier
▪ Benetel : radio product supplier
▪ Cellwize : RAN-SMO and Non RT RIC Platform

Vodafone selects key partners to build Europe's first commercial Open RAN network
Vodafone today unveiled its strategic vendors – Dell, NEC, Samsung Electronics, Wind River, Capgemini Engineering and
Keysight Technologies – to jointly deliver the first commercial deployment of Open Radio Access Network (RAN) in Europe. The
company believes the move will spark other large-scale Open RAN launches and spearhead the next wave of digital
transformation across Europe.
Vodafone’s initial focus will be on the 2,500 sites in the UK that it committed to Open RAN in October 2020. It is one of the
largest deployments in the world and will be built jointly with Dell, NEC, Samsung and Wind River. Starting this year, the
vendors will work with Vodafone to extend 4G and 5G coverage to more rural places across the South West of England and
most of Wales, moving into urban areas in a later phase. Vodafone is also working to launch Open RAN in other countries within
both Europe and Africa, enabling the digital society to be accessible to all, with no one left behind.
Johan Wibergh, Vodafone Chief Technology Officer, said: “Open RAN provides huge advantages for customers. Our network will
become highly programmable and automated meaning we can release new features simultaneously across multiple sites, add
or direct capacity more quickly, resolve outages instantly and provide businesses with on-demand connectivity.
Strategic Vendors
Under this initiative to deliver an open and disaggregated network in the UK, Samsung will be a reference RAN software
provider. Samsung and NEC will supply Massive MIMO – a method to boost capacity of a mobile antenna – along with Samsung
and Evenstar radio units, which establish a signal between users’ smartphones or devices and the mobile mast.
Evenstar radios are part of a joint effort between Facebook and Vodafone to create ‘white-box’ radio units within the Telecom
Infra Project (TIP) and are a key component for Open RAN success. These will provide vendors with detailed specifications
needed to develop compatible radio units much more cheaply, and are designed to encourage new players to the market to
boost the ecosystem and stimulate innovation.
The initial deployments will be implemented using COTS (common off the shelf) Dell EMC PowerEdge servers to support the
combined DU/CU function running Containers as a Service (CaaS) software from Wind River Studio, which will provide a
distributed cloud-native platform hosting the Open RAN applications and virtualised RAN from Samsung. This gives Vodafone
the benefit of being able to mix and match and install new software releases and upgrades more easily.
Keysight Technologies will deliver its comprehensive Open RAN test solution portfolio designed to support conformance,
interoperability and E2E system testing. Capgemini Engineering will be the key partner within our lab testing to ensure
interworking of the Open RAN multi-vendor ecosystem.
The O-RAN Alliance 7-2x split, that defines the interface between the radio antenna and the baseband unit, will be used in the
deployments, following successful test and simulations that make it the option of choice. The resulting Open RAN network is
expected to improve energy efficiency compared to the existing solution from traditional widely deployed RAN products.

看准 5G O-RAN 商机,无线射频技术服务供货商耀登科技携手电信龙头中华电信,建立旗下
「耀睿实验室」成为全球第一家荣获 O-RAN Alliance 认可的 Open Testing and Integration
Centre (OTIC) 的第三方公正实验室,同时也是全亚洲唯一的 OTIC 实验室。未来,中华电信需
要使用的5G O-RAN 电信设备都将透过该实验室进一步认证。耀登科技表示,该实验室自 6 月
份启动以来,国内相关5G O-RAN 电信设备商的设备都已经进驻实验室开始进行测试认证当中。
耀登科技表示,根据 SCF market status report 预估,到 2026 年全球 5G 小基站数量将达
2,000 多万台,到 2030 年专网相关设备规模将可达 180 亿美元。日前 O-RAN 联盟总部的全球
5 个合格 OTIC 实验室,除耀登集团的 OTIC 实验室外,其余四家都隶属于欧洲四大电信商,身
为全球第一个获得认证的第三方实验室,耀登瞄准全球各大网通厂的 5G 白牌基站,提供全球
唯一 O-RAN(国际开放网络架构组织,Open Radio Access Network Alliance)联盟认可的
第三方实验室检测认证服务。
以天线技术起家的耀登集团董事长张玉斌表示,全球 O-RAN 风潮是台湾产业转型契机,耀登
身为 5G 国家队一员,旗下的耀睿实验室能被 O-RAN Alliance 认证,将有助于台湾打进全球
5G 行动基础设备市场。他进一步指出,与中华电信合作,可望加速 5G 开放网络系统整合速度,
为网通业者提供安全可靠的测试环境,有助于 5G 网络布建及产业数字转型,具体落实政府
「亚洲硅谷计划」政策目标。
以往行动网络设备多依赖大厂提供,当 5G 开始导入 O-RAN 架构之后,过往这种被国际设备大
厂「绑死」的情况可望被打破。中华电信董事长谢继茂也表示,与耀登集团携手合作「亚洲硅
谷 5G 开放网络整合验证计划」,期望进一步提升国内 5G 开放网络系统整合能量,为国内网通
业者提供安全可靠的测试环境。
耀登强调,O-RAN 产业将加速台湾通讯产业链走出纯代工市场,旗下耀睿 OTIC 实验室定位在
第三方公正实验室,可提供一致性测试 (Conformance Test)、互操作性测试
(Interoperability Test,IOT)、以及端对端测试 (End-to-End Test,E2E),为企业提供可靠、
经济有效且一致的测试环境。耀登与中华电信进行 5G 开放网络整合验证暨推广计划的项目合
作,包含了国内 8 家网通厂,测试内容有 O-CU、O-DU、O-RU 甚至 gNB 分开与整合测试以

solutions to help accelerate innovation to connect and secure the world, announced that AI-LINK has selected Keysight's
5G test tools for end-to-end performance validation of cloud-native 5G radio access network (RAN) equipment in a
digital twin laboratory environment, which accelerates 5G private network deployments for large-scale smart
warehouse applications.
Based in China, AI-LINK, provides industrial internet of things (IIoT) solutions, built on 5G and cloud edge computing
technology platforms. AI-LINK chose Keysight's user equipment (UE) emulation solution (UeSIM) and LoadCore, a cloud-
native 5G core (5GC) network test solution, to simulate a large number of industrial mobile devices designed for
deployment in 5G private networks. Keysight's solutions enabled AI-LINK to verify the function and performance of 5G
RAN equipment prior to deployment in smart warehouses.
"The completion of the 5G new radio 3GPP Release 16 specification has laid the foundation for enterprises in different
industries to deploy IIoT connectivity solutions based on 5G in combination with digital twin, cloud and mobile edge

AI-LINK used Keysight's 5G test solutions to simulate and stress test the behavior of autonomous guiding vehicle (AGVs)
used in smart warehouses. Using Keysight's UeSIM and LoadCore, AI-LINK can verify the interoperability of the protocol
domain and the radio frequency domain. End-to-end verification of the 5G private network in a laboratory environment
enables AI-LINK to quickly, efficiently and securely resolve complex connectivity issues that may occur in large-scale
industrial scenarios. As a result, AI-LINK can accelerate deployments of 5G private networks.

2022年1月,爱瑞无线联合是德科技向中国移动研究院有关专家演示了基于无线云网络
架构的GOLDEN HUB。
该GOLDEN HUB是符合无线云网络架构标准的4G/5G前传网关。GOLDEN HUB可支持
ORAN 7-2 定义的eCPRI 标准接口和 OTIC定义的CPRI标准接口,面向5G室内分布场景
提供了灵活的组网方式,同时也为DU和RU的测试验证提供了成熟的测试解决方案。
在是德科技模拟DU的配合下,爱瑞无线重点展示了GOLDEN HUB产品的特性以及5G
无线性能,并演示与业界多家RU的互操作测试。测试覆盖了3GPP TS 38.104协议主要

ADI 公司在 2022 世界移动通信大会上使用是德科技KORA解决方案展示 O-RAN 无线单元

Technology)携手合作,共同在 2022 年世界移动大会(MWC22)O-RAN 联盟的线上展会中,展示端到端(E2E)O-

MICAS O-RU STEADILY ENTERS THE 5G GLOBAL MARKET
From December 6th to December 10th, at the 3rd Global Live PlugFest Closed-door
Demonstration Conference, MICAS demonstrated and explained its "5G O-RU Solution".
The conference presented the functions of network equipment and manufacturer’s
interoperability. MICAS O-RU attracted the global attention and successfully exhibited the
feasibility of wireless open networks.
The "5G O-RU Solution" provided by MICAS is an equipment that provides high-quality
5G signal strength. It has completed more than 20 tests in different scenarios in
collaboration with Keysight in the laboratories in Berlin and Taiwan, which means that
MICAS has handed in a satisfactory answer sheet at the O-RAN global PlugFest test
conference. Moreover, as an outstanding contribution member of O-RAN, MICAS was
invited to give a speech at the 3rd Global PlugFest Test Conference, sharing MICAS's
recent research progress with global mobile operators, suppliers and research academic
institutions.
He Ying, CEO of MICAS mentioned to the press: "Our O-RU have been shipped to the
global key customers for trial testing. Thanks to that Keysight provided full support to
MICAS from pre-silicon development to system integration. MICAS and Keysight
combined their technical resources, which ensured that MICAS Sub-6GHz and mmWave
O-RU solutions completed the test scenarios quickly and successfully, complying with the
O-RAN conformance test requirements." "During the test, MICAS’s latest Crest Factor

This conference accelerated the pace of O-RAN compatible commercial solutions. Soon
mature solutions are expected to become part of mainstream suppliers and supplier
product lines. Since RAN is an important and basic part of any mobile network, the
mission of the O-RAN Alliance is to reshape the entire industry and move it towards a
more intelligent, open, virtualized and fully interoperable mobile network. MICAS’s 5G O-

5G adoption is causing mobile networks to grow at unprecedented rates. This brings with it significant new business
opportunities but can also increase the complexity and cost of deployment and operations. An intelligent,
programmable network enables communication service providers to take advantage of the growth that 5G offers
while streamlining their operations to maximize return on investment.
Cisco is addressing these challenges head-on with our industry-leading NCS 500 portfolio. New enhancements enable
simultaneous support of both traditional architectures RAN and open, virtualized RAN, with full interoperability.
Brownfield Interoperability
Cisco has been working with various Standard Development Organizations (SDO) to define an open and fully
interoperable 5G RAN architecture. Through collaboration, we were able to create a solution that could seamlessly
integrate legacy radios on Cisco’s Converged SDN Transport architecture, while also standardizing the specifications
to make it fully interoperable. As a contribution to the O-RAN ALLIANCE, we drove the creation of an open Fronthaul
gateway specification (O-RAN.WG7.FHGW-HRD.0-v02.00) to address deployment challenges for brownfield
providers. This specification allows legacy CPRI based radios to communicate with open RAN 7.2x eCPRI based DU.
Cisco NCS 540 Fronthaul Routers, a key element to the Converged SDN Transport architecture, provide an open and
programmable solution to host RAN network functions like Fronthaul Gateway (FHGW) and RAN resource
configuration.
O-RAN PlugFest in India
We were able to demonstrate this successful integration during the O-RAN Global PlugFest 2021 hosted by Bharti
Airtel in India. Through our multivendor demo, Cisco NCS 540 platform hosted the FHGW network function provided
by VVDN technologies and verified the solution using Keysight Open RAN Studio and Signal Analyzer. Cisco’s
solution approach is vendor agnostic, helping service providers to consolidate functions, optimize network inventory,
and reduce the cost of deployment. FHGW allows seamless integration of legacy radios to ORAN 7.2x DU enabling
operators to adopt ORAN architecture for existing 4G networks. Although the FHGW is deployed at the cell site, it
can provide approximately nine times the optimization to transport bandwidth in a centralized RAN architecture.
Open hardware and API definition helps overcome proprietary dependencies of RAN functions and allows seamless
integration in a multi-vendor environment. A programmable platform promotes innovation and protects investment.
The same platform can be programmed to function as a Fronthaul MUX / De-MUX for shared cell deployment.

  • 3. 3 Enables MICAS to Obtain the First O-RAN Certifications for O-RU Keysight News Releases Keysight Enables MICAS to Obtain One of the First O-RAN Certifications for Open RAN Radio Unit Comprehensive Keysight portfolio used for O-RAN conformance and certification testing SANTA ROSA, Calif., July 21, 2022 Keysight Technologies, Inc. (NYSE: KEYS), a leading technology company that delivers advanced design and validation solutions to help accelerate innovation to connect and secure the world, announced that the Keysight Open Radio Access Network Architect (KORA) solutions enabled MICAS to obtain one of the first O-RAN certifications for its 5G Open RAN Radio Unit (O-RU). The O-RAN Conformance Certification was issued by the Asia & Pacific OTIC in PRC (APOP). MICAS Group Chairman, former CEO of ASTRI, Mr. Hugh Chow, said "The MICAS O-RU has been awarded one of the first O-RAN certificates, thanks to Keysight's mature O-RU testing solution and professional technical support. MICAS is a world class Independent Design House, providing signal chain reference solutions that include cutting-edge O-RU (FR1 and FR2) reference designs. We offer signal chain solutions with flexible options to the vertical industries leveraging our modular software and hardware. Earlier this year, the O-RAN ALLIANCE launched its Certification and Badging program in cooperation with Open Testing and Integration Centers (OTIC). O-RAN certificates state that an equipment or function is conformant to O-RAN specifications, whereas the O-RAN badges confirm interoperability or end-to-end functionality of an O-RAN solution. O-RAN certificates and badges are issued by the OTICs, which provide collaborative, open and impartial working environment to ensure consistency and quality of testing of O-RAN products and solutions. "The O-RAN Certification and Badging program is designed to provide confidence in ensuring the interoperability and conformance of O- RAN products," said Dr. Chih-Lin I, co-chair of the O-RAN Technical Steering Committee, O-RAN ALLIANCE. Having reached its target of powering 100% of the company’s existing European networks from renewable sources, Vodafone is turning its attention to the technology that will power its network in the future. It is ensuring that next generation Open Radio Access Networks (RANs) are as energy efficient as possible. At an industry event run under the auspices of the O-RAN ALLIANCE, called Global PlugFest Spring 2022, Vodafone and several other companies last week demonstrated energy saving techniques in a multi-vendor Open RAN environment. Exceeding the energy efficiency of today’s networks Vodafone Open RAN Senior Engineer, Nikoleta Patroni, explained: “Our plan is to have 30% of all Vodafone’s EU mobile sites on Open RAN by 2030. Now when we introduce new technologies that provide customers with an even better service, we don’t have to compromise our commitment to the environment.” She continued: “We plan to exceed the energy efficiency of today’s mobile networks. To achieve this, we need a standardised approach to evaluating, testing, measuring, and monitoring energy consumption of dis-aggregated multi-vendor Open RAN. This will provide a greater degree of transparency and help accelerate the acceptance of Open RAN technology for larger-scaled commercial deployments.” 9-12 per cent reduction in energy consumption Using a dedicated facility for experimenting on the future of mobile networking called the POWDER laboratory at the University of Utah, home to 35,000 students, Vodafone, Wind River, Intel, Keysight Technologies and Radisys duly delivered. They successfully reduced the power consumption of an Open RAN infrastructure by 9% and 12%, during high and low mobile traffic peak scenarios respectively. These traffic peaks mirror those typically experienced during busy periods of use on a live mobile network such as during commuting hours, and after school, as well as quiet times when most of us are asleep. It is the first time Open RAN energy savings have been measured using real-life traffic scenarios. Future tests in a live environment The test used both simulated and live, non-customer traffic, with both ‘high-peak’ and ‘low-peak’ results showing an improvement over a typical traditional RAN installation. Nikoleta explained that further tests need to be carried out to ensure the energy efficiency gains secured in a controlled laboratory can be replicated across multiple Open RAN sites supporting actual customer traffic. “Energy efficiency is a key sustainability goal for companies around the world. Keysight is focused on partnering and co-innovating with many vendors and operators to accelerate commercial-scale deployments of 5G and meet 6G requirements to achieve that aim,” said Giampaolo Tardioli, vice president and general manager of Keysight’s Network and Operators group. “We need the industry to pull together” Nikoleta concluded: “We have an opportunity to introduce greener technology that at the same time delivers even better connectivity for customers. Last month, the UK Government and telecoms operators announced shared ambitions to expand support for the OpenRAN ecosystem. Vodafone has championed the OpenRAN ecosystem since its conception in 2016 and is actively using OpenRAN across many parts of the UK. To celebrate the deployment of the site, the first 5G video call over OpenRAN infrastructure was made by Vodafone UK’s Chief Network Officer Andrea Dona to the Minister for Digital Infrastructure Julia Lopez on 11 January. The installation of equipment at the site marks a number of firsts, including: • The beginning of the first scaled OpenRAN project in Europe, with 2,500 sites committed by 2027 • The first 5G OpenRAN site • The first time OpenRAN technology has been deployed on a UK macro site to carry live customer traffic Andrea Dona, Chief Network Officer, Vodafone UK, said: “This is the beginning of a new chapter for the mobile industry. This testing and integration space, which will enable companies from the Open RAN ecosystem to test and validate their products and services, and thus accelerate the development of this technology, is the first of its kind to open in France. The Orange Open RAN Integration Center inaugurated on Wednesday 10th November, is located at Orange Gardens in Châtillon, near Paris. It will be accessible to equipment suppliers of the Open RAN ecosystem, start-ups and system integrators, wishing to test the operation and interoperability of their components with those of other suppliers. The Open RAN Integration Center network will also be remotely accessible. The company believes the move will spark other large-scale Open RAN launches and spearhead the next wave of digital transformation across Europe. Vodafone’s initial focus will be on the 2,500 sites in the UK that it committed to Open RAN in October 2020. It is one of the largest deployments in the world and will be built jointly with Dell, NEC, Samsung and Wind River. Starting this year, the vendors will work with Vodafone to extend 4G and 5G coverage to more rural places across the South West of England and most of Wales, moving into urban areas in a later phase. Vodafone is also working to launch Open RAN in other countries within both Europe and Africa, enabling the digital society to be accessible to all, with no one left behind. Johan Wibergh, Vodafone Chief Technology Officer, said: “Open RAN provides huge advantages for customers. Our network will become highly programmable and automated meaning we can release new features simultaneously across multiple sites, add or direct capacity more quickly, resolve outages instantly and provide businesses with on-demand connectivity. Strategic Vendors Under this initiative to deliver an open and disaggregated network in the UK, Samsung will be a reference RAN software provider. Samsung and NEC will supply Massive MIMO – a method to boost capacity of a mobile antenna – along with Samsung and Evenstar radio units, which establish a signal between users’ smartphones or devices and the mobile mast. Evenstar radios are part of a joint effort between Facebook and Vodafone to create ‘white-box’ radio units within the Telecom Infra Project (TIP) and are a key component for Open RAN success. These will provide vendors with detailed specifications needed to develop compatible radio units much more cheaply, and are designed to encourage new players to the market to boost the ecosystem and stimulate innovation. The initial deployments will be implemented using COTS (common off the shelf) Dell EMC PowerEdge servers to support the combined DU/CU function running Containers as a Service (CaaS) software from Wind River Studio, which will provide a distributed cloud-native platform hosting the Open RAN applications and virtualised RAN from Samsung. This gives Vodafone the benefit of being able to mix and match and install new software releases and upgrades more easily. Keysight Technologies will deliver its comprehensive Open RAN test solution portfolio designed to support conformance, interoperability and E2E system testing. Capgemini Engineering will be the key partner within our lab testing to ensure interworking of the Open RAN multi-vendor ecosystem. The O-RAN Alliance 7-2x split, that defines the interface between the radio antenna and the baseband unit, will be used in the deployments, following successful test and simulations that make it the option of choice. The conference presented the functions of network equipment and manufacturer’s interoperability. MICAS O-RU attracted the global attention and successfully exhibited the feasibility of wireless open networks. The "5G O-RU Solution" provided by MICAS is an equipment that provides high-quality 5G signal strength. It has completed more than 20 tests in different scenarios in collaboration with Keysight in the laboratories in Berlin and Taiwan, which means that MICAS has handed in a satisfactory answer sheet at the O-RAN global PlugFest test conference. This brings with it significant new business opportunities but can also increase the complexity and cost of deployment and operations. An intelligent, programmable network enables communication service providers to take advantage of the growth that 5G offers while streamlining their operations to maximize return on investment. Cisco is addressing these challenges head-on with our industry-leading NCS 500 portfolio. New enhancements enable simultaneous support of both traditional architectures RAN and open, virtualized RAN, with full interoperability. Brownfield Interoperability Cisco has been working with various Standard Development Organizations (SDO) to define an open and fully interoperable 5G RAN architecture. Through collaboration, we were able to create a solution that could seamlessly integrate legacy radios on Cisco’s Converged SDN Transport architecture, while also standardizing the specifications to make it fully interoperable. As a contribution to the O-RAN ALLIANCE, we drove the creation of an open Fronthaul gateway specification (O-RAN.WG7.FHGW-HRD.0-v02.00) to address deployment challenges for brownfield providers. This specification allows legacy CPRI based radios to communicate with open RAN 7.2x eCPRI based DU. Cisco NCS 540 Fronthaul Routers, a key element to the Converged SDN Transport architecture, provide an open and programmable solution to host RAN network functions like Fronthaul Gateway (FHGW) and RAN resource configuration. O-RAN PlugFest in India We were able to demonstrate this successful integration during the O-RAN Global PlugFest 2021 hosted by Bharti Airtel in India. Through our multivendor demo, Cisco NCS 540 platform hosted the FHGW network function provided by VVDN technologies and verified the solution using Keysight Open RAN Studio and Signal Analyzer. Cisco’s solution approach is vendor agnostic, helping service providers to consolidate functions, optimize network inventory, and reduce the cost of deployment. FHGW allows seamless integration of legacy radios to ORAN 7.2x DU enabling operators to adopt ORAN architecture for existing 4G networks. Although the FHGW is deployed at the cell site, it can provide approximately nine times the optimization to transport bandwidth in a centralized RAN architecture. Open hardware and API definition helps overcome proprietary dependencies of RAN functions and allows seamless integration in a multi-vendor environment. A programmable platform promotes innovation and protects investment.
