1. Question 4: How did you use media technologies in the construction and research, research stages?
2. I used YouTube to research existing products in the Thriller film genre. Due to the wide range of videos on YouTube, I was also able to research in Post-Modern trailers made by film directors such as Quentin Tarantino. I used Internet explorer to research theory and conventions of my product. As the Internet is vast, and there are so many links to information, I had to find one specific website that would allow me to access theory that would be relevant to my product. For this is : theorysite.org. Owned by David Gauntlet, this allowed me to find the specific information I needed for post-modernism. In the research stage, I had to create an animatic remake for another trailer from my own genre. Final cut allowed me to do this very easily, and I could create something that was readable and good quality.
4. In order to create a check list for myself when planning, and be sure that I remembered it, I used PowerPoint to create slideshows where I would write down all the things that I needed to plan, and have buzz words that I could remember what part I should be looking at. This was very useful in remembering where I was in each section, as I could look back and clearly see what I had or hadn’t done. My other main technology that I utilized in planning was the use Microsoft Excel. Excel allowed me to draw up tables of information as well as record charts that would help me to plan what I was doing at a set time in the planning. This would later become useful in my development stages.
6. I used Final Cut when taking my recorded footage and editing it down so that it would fit within the specific time. If I was to compare my skills set this year, to last year, I would say that it was expanded, due to the different aspects found in my video. I had colour changes, music, correction, subtitles, film titles and two toning- all of which I didn’t have last year What would any film be without a camera? For my own product, through the development of filming. I used my own camera, which was a Samsung HD ready digital Camera. The use of digital was good- clear and distinct, but also I didn’t have access to 35mm, so I wasn’t going to use it!
7. I also used a digital camera, when taking photos of my main character for use in the poster and in the magazine cover. Below are a selection of photos that were possible angles for both ancillary products.
8. In comparison to my AS Product, I had not needed to incorporate music before. This time round, however, I needed to ensure that I was able to Get the correct music and fit it to my product. Due to this, I used garage band, which allowed me to take a pre-recorded track and place this on top of my product. Photo shop was one of the main software's that I used when developing my ancillary tasks. I used to create different formats and layers to my print products, but also to make them original. To the right you can see some of the process involved in creating my poster.
10. At Evaluation, I employed the use of some of the same techs that I had used in the other stages, but in a slightly different way. As you can obviously see, I employed the use of PowerPoint. However, it was through Slide Share, that I was able to present the PowerPoint’s on the blog. Another technology that was a key instrument in my evaluation, was the use of Wordpress. Wordpress has been a key asset through my Coursework, but it has also been very advantageous throughout the evaluation stages, as it vast program has allowed me to present my final product in a variety of effective ways. The final tech that I used during my evaluation stage, was YouTube. Like Wordpress and Slide Share, this was something that I had used throughout my entire Coursework. In my evaluation, YouTube allowed me to present my videos and products in a interactive format.
