  2. 2. OBJECTIVES  To demonstrate our understanding, the process about Broadcast News Writing.  To transcribe print to TV broadcast format  To practice news formats
  3. 3. BROADCAST NEWS WRITING  Must appeal to our ears and eyes.  Different from print writing – characterized by longer, more complex sentences & more difficult words.  In print writing, readers have more time to comprehend what they are reading.
  4. 4. BROADCAST NEWS WRITING  Keep it simple, clear & concise  Write as if you’re having a chat with a friend  Pay attention to sentence structure; different than print

  9. 9. WHY SHORTER SENTENCES?  Shorter sentences are mote easily understood than long ones.  Broadcast copy must be read out load. If you write a sentence that’s too long, you will be gasping for breath just to finish it.

  18. 18. INTERVIEWS  Ask open-ended questions; avoid YES OR NO answers.  WHY & HOW questions tend to generate meaning responses.  Ask them to describe (how they feel, the impact, the situation)
