2. Obejctive: Learn how to add lights to a posed or animated scene
Requirements: A working Steam Client connected to the internet with
Source Filmmaker Installed. You also should have read through Hector’s
Lessons on basic use of Source Filmmaker to understand this lesson.
3. Step 1
Have a project loaded with a model posed how you wish to start this lesson.
Once you have that, click the dropdown on the camera tab
Change Scene Camera -> New Camera
4. Step 2
After you make the camera, we want to manipulate it. Click the “+” in the
Animation set editor tab, and click Create Animation Set(s) for Existing Element(s)
In the “Select Dag…” box, click your newly created camera and click ok.
5. Step 3
Expand the newly added camera in the Animation Set Editor and select the
toneMapScale attribute. Press F3 (toggles motion editor) and double click the
toneMapScale slider (seen in image below) and it should let you insert a value.
Type 0.03 and press enter.
6. Step 4
The scene should look darker now and our lights will have more of an effect. Let’s
Add our light now. Click the “+” in the Animation Set Editor, and click
Create Animation Set for New Light.
7. Step 5
A new light should appear in front of the camera. To move the light, we need to
Put it in camera mode. To do that, click and drag “light1” from the animation set
Editor and drop it on top of your Primary Viewport.
8. Step 6
Press F3 (ensure your in the motion editor) and notice that as you move the camera,
you also move where the light points. Move the light to a position next to the
model for this example.
9. Step 7
Now that the light is in a new angle, load up the main camera by clicking on the
camera button in the Primary Viewport. Notice how the light adds effect to the
model.
10. Step 8
To customize the light, open up its tree in the Animation Set Editor. Everything
can be changed to satisfy your needs. Click the Intensity attribute and slide it all
the way up to maximize the light’s brightness.
11. Step 9
To change the color of a light, scroll down and find the “color_(color name)”
attributes. Hold control and click on all of them EXCEPT “color_alpha” (image
below). This adds three color sliders to your animation set. Moving the slider to
the left REMOVES that color, and pushing it to the right ADDS color. An
example of how to make a blue color can be seen in the image below.
12. You should now understand how to manipulate the camera to add lighting. Alongside
that you should understand how to add lights, move them, and customize them to
your needs.

Intensities.
• Make the darkness of the camera (toneMapScale) very very low and lighten a model
