For the third year in a row, Pita Jungle will hostan “Empty Bowls” event in which guests can purchasehand-crafted clay
bowls created by local artisansthis comingholiday season to benefit Waste Not, a local 501(c)(3) nonprofitthathas been
feeding the hungry in the Valley for more than 25 years.All 15 metro-Phoenix Pita Jungle locations will sell a limited
quantity of Empty Bowls from Dec. 1 through Dec. 15, with 100 percent of proceeds benefitting WasteNot.
About Waste Not
Established in 1987,WasteNot is a local 501(c)(3) nonprofitthatfeeds thousands of hungry people in Arizona every day.
With one in four children goingto bed hungry every night, and 16.1 percent of the population in the state livingin poverty,
hunger remains a prevalent issue.The organization’s trucks and drivers areon the road six days per week to answer this
need, by collectingan averageof 10,000 pounds of excess perishablefood from restaurants,resorts,caterers,grocers and
various other food purveyors – food that would otherwise be thrown away. WasteNot delivers the food the same day to
more than 100 diverseagencies that feed the hungry includingschools,after-school programs,daycarecenters,
rehabilitation centers,transition homes and senior facilities.Arecord 2.5 million pounds of food was transferred in 2015.
