Bust common car care
myths & save
Toyota of Orlando
Do you know what goes on under
the hood?
It can be intimidating trying to care for
your car – after all, not a whole lot of
people know what goes on under the hood.
Your best strategy for saving money and
caring for your car is to educate yourself.
Toyota of Orlando is here to bust
common car maintenance myths and give
you the knowledge you need to save big.
Myth #1: You should use
premium fuel.
—  Think that using premium fuel will improve performance
and fuel efficiency? Think again. Some cars require
premium fuel (and you can find out if yours does by
checking the owner’s manual) but most don’t. If your car
doesn’t require it, don’t waste your money… simply stick
with regular unleaded.
Myth #2: Any soap will work for
washing your car.
—  Definitely not. Using laundry detergent or dish soap to
wash your car can strip the protective wax off of the paint,
leaving it vulnerable to the elements and road debris. Use
a soap formulated for car maintenance – our Orlando
Toyota parts store can help you choose one.
Myth #3: You should get an oil
change every 3,000 miles.
—  Not necessarily – it depends on the type of oil you’re using.
Conventional motor oil may require oil changes every
3,000 to 5,000 miles depending on the car and
performance. But some synthetic oils can go as long as
10,000 miles before an oil change. Be sure to ask your
Orlando car maintenance tech what works for your car!
Myth #4: You need to let your
car warm up before driving.
—  Nope! You don’t need to idle in the driveway to warm up
your car – it actually warms up more efficiently when you
drive it. Maybe take a lap before you punch the accelerator
to let things warm up, but you don’t need to idle at home
before you hit the road.
Myth #5: Your battery doesn’t
need to be replaced after a jump.
—  More often than not, you do need to replace your battery
after a jump because there’s something wrong with it
that’s not allowing it to hold a charge. If your car won’t
start and you get it jumped, come directly to
Toyota of Orlando to have it inspected and if need be,
replaced.
