Market & Funding Insights
With the advent of social media and IoT, businesses are receiving a lot more data than they ever did in the past. Companies who
can analyze this data, derive insights and share their learnings across with partners externally in an effective manner to
transform their businesses are invariably the ones who are going to win. Start-ups like Terbine, Dataminr are already generating
value from IoT & Social Media data.
In addition to IoT, Open data- from both public and private sources are giving new dimension to data-driven innovations.
Businesses are finding new ways of segmenting markets by blending open data with proprietary data and discovering new ways
to raise productivity by using open and proprietary data to benchmark operations. According to McKinsey $3 trillion in annual
economic potential could be unlocked across seven domains. [1]
Over $4.5B has been invested in this sector since 2010 with Financial data providers alone receiving a funding of $1.1B. The top
three funded sub-sectors till date:

• 500 Startups, Felicis Ventures, Founders Fund, and NEA are some of the most active investors.
• Andreessen Horowitz, Sequoia Capital, and Accel Partners have also shown their interest in this sector by investing in
