5. BIKE RACKING PROCEDURE: 5:30 am - 7:30
am
Please make sure you bring the following to your bike check in:
Your race number
Your swim cap
Your bike helmet
Your race bucket
That your stickers are attached to the correct items
After the referee check-point please proceed to the correct bike racking position and
rack your bike according to your race numbers. Please be considerate with regard
to space in the transition area.
Each row of bike racks will accommodate a certain sequence of numbers which will be
marked at the end of each row. As long as you rack in the correct row, you can
rack anywhere along that row.
6. BIKE RACKING PROCEDURE:
Each bike rack holds two bikes – one facing in each
direction
Rack your bike in the right hand
position:
This will mean athletes racking on the other side of the rack will also be on their
right hand side – keeping transition well spaced.
Limited space:
There is limited space between each bike rack, which is why you need to keep
your race items in the bucket and your transition area clear.
7. BIKE RACKING PROCEDURE:
Once your bike is racked – proceed to the bucket transition area to hand over
your buckets and for body marking.

•LEG: Back of calf on right leg
ALL ESCAPEES MUST BE RACKED BY NO LATER THAN HALF AN HOUR

ONCE YOU HAVE LEFT THE TRANSITION AREA, YOU
WILL NOT BE PERMITTED BACK IN SO PLEASE MAKE
SURE YOU TAKE EVERYTHING YOU NEED OUT WITH
YOU!
ONLY ATHLETES ARE ALLOWED IN THE TRANSITION
AREA!
10. THE SWIM – remember to bring your Jailbreak
cap!
WETSUIT USAGE: The Chief Race Referee will take a water temperature reading on
the morning of the race to make a final decision as to whether wetsuits will be worn.
While it is more than likely wetsuits will be permitted, there is a possibility that the
water temperature may be too high.
Remember that no inmate will be allowed to escape without the Jailbreak swim cap.
MINIMUM ESCAPE:
Inmates will be required to complete one lap of the swim course.
Feather banners will be on the shore to guide escapees back to the swim exit and
buoys will be clearly placed to direct inmates around the course.
MAXIMUM ESCAPE:
Inmates will be required to complete two laps of the swim course. There will be a
short portage between laps
Feather banners will be on the shore to guide escapees back to the swim exit and
buoys will be clearly placed to direct inmates around the course.
11. TRANSITION BUCKETS – maximum escape
After exiting the swim all inmates must retrieve their transition buckets before
heading to the first transition. The buckets will be on your left as you summit the
steep hill leading up to the grassy area. Shout out your number to the accomplices as
you approach to help them help you retrieve your bucket.
All your clothes and nutrition requirements should be in the bucket.

Make sure you are ready to ride: helmet fastened, numbers on,
gloves on, sunglasses on etc
You may not push your bike while trying to fasten helmet and

You may not ride in transition – push your bike to the mount line
You may not throw things in transition. If you forgot to leave something at your

Do not tamper with anyone else’s bike or equipment
Do not arrange to give anything to or take anything from spectator while in
transition or anywhere else on the race.
15. THE CYCLE – no helmet no ride
Please note the procedure for leaving the transition, mounting your bike and entering
the cycle leg. Caution is advised when entering the cycle course as other cyclists

penalties
Under ITU rules, the draft zone is a large rectangle measuring 3m wide by 10
m long that extends backwards from the front tire of the bike [source: ITU].
(The zone measures 12 meters long for long-distance races.) If you want to
pass a rider in front of you, you can only ride through their draft zone for a
total of 15 seconds [source: ITU]
You are also not allowed to block someone from trying to overtake you
NO ROAD CLOSURE:
Please note that there will be traffic on the road and you should ride within the
yellow lines wherever they exist.
Obey traffic officials
Be courteous of other athletes
