Mother tongue or first language is a term
that denotes not only the language one learns
from one's mother, but also the speaker's
dominant and home language (Nordquist)
Influence is a power to sway or affect
based on prestige, wealth,
ability, or position

“Felipe llevó a la escuela sus libros favorites”.
If it is translated directly in English it means
“Felipe took to school his favorite books”.
In Spanish, a preposition phrase is regularly
put in front of a direct object.

“Ich habe meine Reisepasse vergessen”
translates literally as
“I have my passport forgotten”.
In German, infinitives and past participles
usually come at the end of the sentence.

“une voiture rouge”
should not be expressed in English as
“car red”
The French learner of English must
struggle against the temptation to put
attributive adjectives after the noun as they
would in their mother tongue.

1. Javanese
For example in pronouncing the word
‘useful’, where it should be pronounce
/ju:sfᶷl/
they will produce it as /ju:sᶷfᶷl/
The Influence in English Pronunciation
1. Bataknese
The word „find‟ is pronounced /paInd/
where it should be /faInd/
Some people from Sumatra are difficult
in pronouncing the /f/ sound
The Influence in English Pronunciation
1. Papuan
They tend to pronounce the word ‘a
book’ as /ebᶷk/
while it should be /ᶷbᶷk/
CONCLUSION
People need to expand the
knowledge of language like learn more
languages and understand the system of
the language.
It does not matter which accent that
you have in producing English as long
as your English can be understood, be
proud of it.

The Influence of Mother Tongue in Learning English

  • 6. Findings and Analysis Mother tongue or first language is a term that denotes not only the language one learns from one's mother, but also the speaker's dominant and home language (Nordquist) Influence is a power to sway or affect based on prestige, wealth, ability, or position

  • 8. The Influence of Mother Tongue in Learning English English Sentence Order Pronunciation Spanish and English German French Indonesian : Javanese Bataknesse Papuan
  • 9. English Sentence Order 1. Spanish “Felipe llevó a la escuela sus libros favorites”. If it is translated directly in English it means “Felipe took to school his favorite books”. In Spanish, a preposition phrase is regularly put in front of a direct object.
  • 10. English Sentence Order 2. German “Ich habe meine Reisepasse vergessen” translates literally as “I have my passport forgotten”. In German, infinitives and past participles usually come at the end of the sentence.

  • 14. The Influence in English Pronunciation 1. Papuan They tend to pronounce the word ‘a book’ as /ebᶷk/ while it should be /ᶷbᶷk/
  • 15. CONCLUSION People need to expand the knowledge of language like learn more languages and understand the system of the language.
  • 16. It does not matter which accent that you have in producing English as long as your English can be understood, be proud of it.
