Chile Flying Labs as a special guest at the celebration of
the Independence Day of the United States
Commemorating the Independence Day of the United States, Chile Flying Labs was invited as a special
guest by U.S Embassy located in Santiago to their celebration event. This year marks the 50th
anniversary of the arrival of the man on the moon. The celebration called for greater participation of
women in science and highlighted the contribution they have made to modern science. The authorities of
the Government of Chile were also present at this event. Our team had the opportunity to show and
present Chile Flying Labs activities and work to them. We were given a booth where we displayed
different videos and presentations about the work we do in different areas ranging from humanitarian aid,
telemedicine, training, study of biological cycles and our engagement with the local communities,
particularly with schools.
We would like to express our gratitude to the U.S Embassy in Chile and our special thanks to Rhett
Jefferies for inviting us to their celebration.

Training our volunteers
With simulated cases of emergency
situations, our volunteers from Chile
Flying Labs, were put to a test, through
an internal competence training. The
training took place at the headquarters of
Chile Fying Labs, located inside the
Universidad Bernardo O´Higgins.
The volunteers had to solve in the
shortest possible time how to carry out
an evacuation. As a first stage of the
training, they had to overcome their own
time of response. We plan to organize he
second training in September.
Chile Flying Labs, the rural community of
Paine and 4 students from a school in
the same locality, are joining together to
study biological cycles and soil
desertification through monitoring using
artificial intelligence.
This project will be carried out in the
town of Paine in September and data
analysis will be done in the Universidad
Bernardo O´Higgins. The data obtained
will be made available to the community
in order to collaborate with water
management and thus mitigate the effect
of climate change.

First meeting of Chile Flying Labs volunteers
and training
Chile Flying Labs and Drone Sar Chile volunteer team start to fly together
After a call and exhaustive selection to incorporate new volunteers to the Chile Flying Labs network, the
welcome meeting was held in the premises of the Bernardo O'Higgins University on 24th April. This
meeting was held in conjunction with our Drone Sar Chile partners. In this meeting the structure and way
of working for the year 2019 was explained to our new team of volunteers.
First training with the new volunteers of Chile Flying labs was also held. This was the first of a series of
training sessions whose objective is to generate technical capabilities for disaster response support
through remote sensing tools. The laboratory volunteers group gathered 30 professionals from different
areas among geographers, cartographers and engineers and other related areas of sciences. During the
coordination meeting, the team analyzed the workflow and guidelines strategies around territorial planning
and disaster reduction. In addition, associations were made known with various companies, municipalities
and public services
Key Achievement
Chile Flying Labs and ImagineIT started to work together in the analysis of information for
prevention and response to disasters. Imagine IT made a donation of licenses to support the work
of our organization. The donation made is valued at 650000 USD. With this donation, our
volunteers will have better tools to analyze

Upcoming project
Chile Flying Labs signed a work
agreement with the fishing
community of Cartagena. The
agreement is about a project for
photogrammetric survey,
planimetry and risk study in San
Pedro Caleta, located in the district
of Cartagena in Valparaíso Region,
Chile. The project seeks to map the
risks present in the cove, in support
of a tourism project that is being
developed by the Fishermen Union.
This was created in response to a
new law created by the new
government that reduces the fishing
quota, so many of them will lose
their job, so we are helping them to
find new job alternatives in tourism.
In the first stage of the project, we
are planning the flights and the
lifting of images with
drones. As a second stage, we are
working on photogrammetry and
then we plan to carry out the
cartography and risk analysis.
