Cooperative, Comprehensive, Continuous Planning Process
Plan for a program federal funds for roadway, transit and other transportation improvements
Identified through input from public and stakeholders
Available funding for transportation infrastructure is a challenge across the board
Common Community Vision State
Adopted, January 2014
18 goals in areas of economic development, education, healthcare, safety, natural resources, transportation, housing, etc.
Intended to be used by various local agencies to work towards a Common Community Vision for the entire community
especially for us in the Greater Lowndes Comprehensive Plan Update
You are encouraged to think what your organization can do to help reach this Common Community Vision
Transportation strategies to meet CCV goals (how can transportation improve education, housing, healthcare, etc.)
Complete Streets Policy – require all projects with federal funds to design roadways for all users: cars, trucks, bikes, pedestrians, utilities
Intersection Improvement Policy – require roundabouts to be considered as an alternative for all intersection projects in the Plan
Active, Healthy Lifestyles Policy – requires local governments to spend $500K on bicycle/pedestrian infrastructure projects/safety programs per year
Transportation Planning Strategies – truck traffic study, coordintation with land use ordinances, parking studies, public transit, promote transportation demand management options
2040 Socioeconomic Data Study, completed in 2013.
Looked at 5-year increments to 2040
Can be used for other purposes than transportation, contains information on housing, and other population characteristics
8 Federal Planning Factors – transportation plan addresses each of these
Developed using actual, historic costs
Inflation is already considered and the cost of each project is displayed in a ‘year of expenditure’ amount
More than 50% allocated to maintain the existing system
Cost of doing business
$1M/lane/mile to resurface interstate
$278K/lane/mile to resurface state route
$5.3M/lane/mile for a new urban roadway
The TIP includes funds for roadways and transit
Includes all phases of a project from PE, ROW, UTIL, CST
The plan can be viewed on our website at www.sgrc.us
We will be speaking at nearly 15 civic groups and local government agency meeting from July 7 – August 7
We are open to speaking with other groups as well
The VLMPO Policy Committee will adopt the 2040 Transportation Vision Plan at their September 2 meeting
