The document provides an overview of troubleshooting Horizon View. It discusses common issues with Horizon Client connectivity, desktop availability, application management, and broken brokers. For each problem domain, it identifies where to look for troubleshooting clues such as logs, events, and status information. It also provides examples of error messages and events that indicate specific issues.

Broker Sizing Guidelines
• Common issues resulting from undersized brokers:
• Memory Heap Issues (In 5.x versions)
• Threading issues
• Latency Issues
Recommendations:
• Always size your broker right from the beginning, avoid downtime or issues later.
• Minimum recommended specifications:
• 2 vCPU / 10 GB RAM for normal sizing (50-500 VMs)
• 4 vCPU / 16+ GB RAM for large sizing (500+ VMs)

45. Capturing ESX Performance Snapshots
• Use the following command to collect performance metrics for 8 hours on a host:
for i in `seq 8`;do esxtop -a -b -d 5 -n 720 > $i.<hostname>.csv;done
• The above command will create eight 100mb files consisting of 1 hour's worth of ESXTOP
snapshots.
– -d = delay in seconds
– -n = iterations
– (-d 5 x -n 720 = 3600 seconds or 1 hour).
• Useful for replaying performance data over wide time periods for support to analyze!

Why is VMware credible to drive this market shift? Why us?
VMware is the leader in business mobility today:
VMware delivers the industries unquestionable leader in mobile management and security (AirWatch).
VMware is bringing innovation to the desktop platform and extending app delivery across any device (Horizon).
VMware is the market leader in data center and cloud infrastructure, a critical component of the mobile-cloud era.
Just recently announced, we have shown our continued leadership and positioned highest in execution with AirWatch Mobile for Gartner’s 2015 MQ for EMM.

This is an example of how you can utilize BareTail or other 3rd party utilities to follow session in a log and use filtering to identify where problems may be occurring.
So how do we see these metrics, well they are visible in vCenter. Hopefully you are using vCenter as your first stop for debugging any problem in your virtualized environment. vCenter provides nice Alarms that will trigger if device latency is too high or if a VM is using a high amount of bandwidth to the device, there are also charts that you can use to look at the values and see historical trends. The only thing to be aware of is that vCenter uses a 20sec sample period so it might miss some spiky performance issues, but it is a good first start.
We also have vCenter operations that provides a more robust total view of the health of your system, and I encourage you to take a look at vCenter operations which is being demoed at the VMware booth here at the show.
[Generally vCenter Operations has a session and is manning the VMware Booth here at VMUG]
