2. A Community Partnership Approach, Part I
Lessons from COVID-19 and Chattanooga’s response
● Community convening quickly brought to light potential partnerships
● Funding opportunities can bring community partners together around a
shared challenge, even if they don’t result in an award
● It’s possible - and essential - to solve for our current crisis while still
keeping an eye on the future
3. A Community Partnership Approach, Part II
Lessons (and aphorisms) from the FCC solicitation
● You don’t know what you don’t know (but somebody else probably does)
● With potentially similar technologies and use-cases, localization and
community narrative can make the difference
● An “If you build it ...” approach isn’t enough: Bring focus to the end-user
● Even rigid structure and scope affords creative opportunities
● Be kind to yourself + partners: Doing something for the first time isn’t
easy
4. A Community Partnership Approach, Part III
Lessons from from other telehealth grant opportunities
● The digital divide is a public health crisis, and connectivity is a
systems-level community determinant of health
● Trust, and trusted partners, are essential to the success of new
initiatives and their long-term sustainability
● Smaller opportunities can lay crucial groundwork for what comes
next, as well as build vital relationships with community partners (for
whom the opportunity may not seem nearly as small)
