“I always think a great speaker convinces
us not by force of reasoning but because
he is visibly enjoying the beliefs he
wants us to accept.”
-W.B. Yeats
Podium panic
For some people, the thought of giving a
presentation is more frightening than
falling off a cliff, financial difficulties, or
snakes !
What is Podium Panic ?
How to deal with Podium Panic ?
Dealing with podium panic
Before Presentation
During Presentation
After Presentation
Before The Presentation
Check out the room in advance
Concentrate on the message
Rehearsal is the most required thing
before giving a presentation
Analyze your audience
Analyzing your audience
What are their names, backgrounds, reasons for attending, etc
?
What are their big concerns ?
What do their objectives, or hot buttons, fears or attitude?
And more importantly…..
How much do they need?
During the presentation
Begin in your comfort zone
Give well prepared and small intro
Eye contact
Pitch or Tone
Substandard Grammar
Pronunciation
Articulation
Rate of speech
Emphasis
Vocalized pauses
( um, ah, you know, I mean, oh, like)
Eye contact is also an essential part while
making a communication
Never let your audience go out of your sight
Looking in their eyes makes them feel they
are influenced by what you say
Body Language
Do not stay in the same place, and also do not rock or sway
Do not lean on wall or table or stand too very close to the mice
Do not use a single gesture repeatedly or cross your arm
Do not chew gum or candy
Do not bite or examine your fingernails or crack your knuckles.
Do not click or tap your pencil or pen or pointer or shuffle your
notes repeatedly
After the Presentation
“Does anyone have any questions
for my answers?”
-Henry Kissinger
The Q & A round
The Q&A round is in a way beginning of a new interactive
presentation
Opportunity to make a point
Most battles are either WON or LOST here
Listen to the entire question
Pause and Think
Credit the person for asking the question
Respond to the question honestly and in the best way you can
Head on to the next question by asking them “Does that
answer your question?", "Is that the kind of information you
were looking for?“
THE RULE- Never argue with any member of the audience.
