INTRODUCTION
Flooding is a temporary overflow of water onto land that is normally dry. Floods are the most
common natural disaster in a country like India.
Floods may result from rain, melting snow, coastal storms, storm surges, and overflows of
dams and other water systems.
Floating house is a unique mechanism of living on a buoyant platform without the fear of
sinking and get a float with the rising ups and downs according to the water level. It is not a
houseboat, but actual house that is designed to float.
The main working principle is that lightweight superstructure sits on the buoyant base,
which is watertight, lightweight, and strong.

INTRODUCTION (CONT….)
Department Of Civil Engineering, AIT, Chikkamagaluru.
The main advantage of idea is that it is an economical solution for flood mitigation.
It prevents an ongoing inconvenience to residents as well as creating a significant
impediment for the elderly and others with impaired mobility.

LITERATURE SURVEY
SI. No Title Author Description
1. ‘‘Amphibious house in the low land
region as one of the new
technologies against flood in
Malaysia”
“Mohamad et al [2012] ” The main goal of this paper is that
the amphibious house with
concrete pontoon is one of the
most applicable and appropriate
choice against flood in malaysia.
2. “Amphibious Architecture Living
with a Rising Bay”
“Heather et al. [2014]” The main goal of this paper is to
century, sea level has risen nearly
eight inches along the California
coast and climate scientists suggest
substantial increases in sea level as
a significant impact of climate
change over the coming century.
3. ‘‘“Cascading Flood Compartments
with Adaptive Response’’
“Pasche et al.[2013]” The goal of the paper is, in this
changing environment, great
uncertainty exists about the need
to adapt conventional coastal flood
protection structures.

people living in low lying areas such
as Bangladesh.
5. “Stability and Reliability of
Amphibious House for Flood Plain

METHODOLOGY
Department Of Civil Engineering, AIT, Chikkamagaluru. 12-12-2022
In this project we have used three software to sketch the amphibious have namely AUTO
CAD , Sketchup, and Lumion.
AUTO CAD is used to draw the plan of the house.
Sketchup is used to draw the elevation of the house.
Lumion is used to for visualization of the house.
For practical construction of the house following materials method are used.
The foundation of the house is specifically designed to be retrofitted to a pre-existing house
which is already lightly elevated off the ground and supported on short piers.

METHODOLOGY
Department Of Civil Engineering, AIT, Chikkamagaluru. 12-12-2022
The buoyant base can be constructed using different materials such as polystyrene foam
hallow barrels, plastic bottles and even light weight concrete such as siporex blocks etc..
are used .
The frame of the base can be build by light weight stainless steel, bamboos etc..
The wall and roof are constructed with wooden structural members plastered with mud
line mix and galvanized iron sheets are used
