Given a data set, I was asked to plan a professional development training session for an elementary school enrollment team which included the administrator, data controller, and office manager. The goal of this training was to prepare schools for a successful enrollment season by sharing important enrollment dates and procedures, as well as what motivates families to enroll in a school district within the Dallas-Fort Worth Metroplex.
2. Key Questions to Be Addressed
● What are the important dates to enroll students?
● What are the procedures?
● What makes families want to enroll and stay in *ISD?
● How do we provide support to the feeder patterns struggling to recruit
and retain?
● How do we recruit and retain new enrollment?
● What concerns do we have to address for the early learning program?
Objective

7. What motivates (drives) family’s decision to enroll and stay in *ISD?
Families base their decision to enroll or not enroll with *ISD based on:
● Convenience
Proximity of campus to their household, ease of transfer to other Dallas ISD campuses, transportation, school hours, special needs etc.
● Approachability of the staff and a healthy communication with the school
Teachers care about their students and create a safe learning environment, parent involvement and constant friendly communication.
● Quality of education
Graduation success rate, support for career and college readiness, availability of academic enrichment programs.
8. Identifying Schools That Need Support
From looking at the ED report provided, schools/feeders that need support can be identified by:
● The number of seats allocated
● The number of applications submitted and students enrolled
● The number of pending qualifications
PD sessions can be designed specifically for the
school’s needs such as:
● One-on-one help
● Create video training tutorials for data input
apps such as InfoSnap and PowerSchool.
We can also create video tutorials for parents
to help them with online applications.
● Organize group training and refresher sessions
● Assisting with enrollment events
9. Examples of Identifying School/Feeder Needs
Anne Frank Elementary PK3 has a total of 36 allocated seats but 47 applications submitted.
28 have been enrolled, 19 are pending qualifications, and 11 are overflow.
Do they need support in assisting families possibly having to go with their 2nd and 3rd choice school?
We can follow up once a week with each school
to help with their needs either by:
● Physically going up to the campus and
speaking with the administrator or
data/registrar
● By phone or email
C.M Soto Elementary PK4 has a total of 72 allocated seats and 27 applications submitted.
All 27 have been enrolled. Is it possible they need support in recruiting since seats are still left unfilled?
10. Recruit and Retain
How can we attract more prek-kinder students?
● Target our audience and figure out what appeals to them about
early learning.
● Depending on the budget, we can have a kick off event and open
houses for families to visit classrooms, teachers and staff. Get
everyone excited!
● Continue to knock on doors and talk with families.
● Continue traditional media advertising .
● Create consistent content which can help raise our viewers
and retain them. Make enough content to share on multiple
platforms to reach more people.
● Possibly create more enrichment programs such as cooking,
music, art, & sports which helps with student interactions and
life skills.
● Utilize Social Media and put icons on the Early Learning page
to link.
What concerns do we have to address for the early learning program?
● As per data provided, PreK - Kinder retention has been on the
decline since 2013. African-Americans are more inclined to leave to
attend charters because of perception of quality, convenience, and a
personalized feel.
● Parents are concerned with the success rate of graduating students
from *ISD.
● Behavior management, class size, organization can always be
revisited.
● The availability of more academic enrichment classes.
Keep up the great work!
Let’s Have A Great Year!
