OF MS-EXCEL
USE OF TIME VALUE
OF MONEY IN FINANCE
Time value of money is such an
important concept in finance, that it is
difficult to find even one single topic in
finance where the time value of money
does not play a role. It plays a crucial
role in almost every decision-making
process.
Every other individual who deals with
finances must possess proper
knowledge regarding the concept of
the time value of money. Therefore,
without this concept smooth working
of finances is not possible.
USE OF MS-EXCEL IN COMPUTING
TIME VALUE OF MONEY
Following functions are useful for computing time value of money:
• NPV(rate, value1, [value2],...) calculates the net present of an
investment based on a discount rate and a series of future payments
and income.
• FV(rate, nper, pmt, [pv], [type]) returns the future value of an
investment based on periodic, constant payments and a constant
interest rate.
• IRR(values, [guess]) returns the internal rate of return for a series of
cash fl ows represented by the numbers in values.
• PMT (rate, nper, pv, [fv], [type])
calculates the payment for a loan
(installment) based on constant
payments and a constant interest
rate.
• PV(rate, nper,pmt, [fv], [type])
calculates the present value of a loan
or an investment, based on a constant
interest rate.
• NPER(rate,pmt,pv,[fv],[type])
• RATE(nper, pmt, pv, [fv], [type],
[guess])
USE OF MS-EXCEL IN HR ANALYSIS

USE OF EXCEL IN
DATA ANALYSIS
Microsoft Excel allows users to modify
fields and functions that perform
computations when working with more
complex data. Additionally, it facilitates
easy collaboration and works with
multiple users together.
• What if analysis
• Conditional formatting
• Pivot tables
DATA ANALYSIS TOOL PACK
select a cell in a data range > select the
Analyze Data button on the Home tab.
PROS AND CONS OF USING EXCEL IN DATA ANALYSIS
• PROS
• Microsoft Excel is best for arranging large sets of data into organized tables.
• Data Visualizations like graphs
• Excel streamlines your calculations.
• Excel is available on all leading platforms
• CONS
• Microsoft Excel isn’t designed to be scalable.
• It does not have support for quick autofill features
• If you aren’t careful enough, there are bound to be errors in your calculations.
• No automation features.
USE OF EXCEL AS AN
AUDIT TOOL
• Using Trace Precedents
• Using Trace Dependents
• Using Trace Error
• Performing a What-if Analysis
Using the Goal Seek Feature
USING TRACE PRECEDENTS
AND DEPENDENTS
PRECEDENTS:
• When you
auditsomething,
you are checking it
for accuracy.
• The Trace
Precedents feature
finds the cells that
are used in
afunction.
• Precedents refer to
cells that supply
the values used in
a function.
DEPENDENTS:
• The Trace Dependents
feature works by locating
formulas or functions
that depend on the value
in a selected cell.
• If you select a cell
containing data and then
click the Trace
Dependents button.
• A tracer arrow is drawn
from the selected cell,
called the dependent,
pointing to the cell with
the function.
USING
TRACE
ERROR
• To locate the source of an error, click the cell with the error and then
click the Trace Error command.
• Excel displays an information icon next to the cell with an error
status.
• Click the icon to see a list with options on how to resolve the error.
PERFORMING A WHAT-IF ANALYSIS
USING THE GOAL SEEK FEATURE
• The Goal Seek feature finds the unknown value you need in order
to accomplish your goal.
• The Goal Seek feature is referred to as a “what-if” analysis tool.
USE OF EXCEL IN
TAXATION
• Examining methods of computing income tax
in excel using tax tables.
• Specifically, we use LOOKUP functions, SUM,
MAX, MIN, SUMPRODUCT function and then
we use data validation and the INDIRECT
function to make it easy to pick the desired
tax table, such as single or married filing joint.
USING IF
STATEMENT
• Most excel users are familiar with the
sum, min and max functions in excel.
• You can use these functions with if
statement also for computing income
tax, you have to provide a range of
cells to the function to derive a result.
• We can use if function also for
calculating income tax as per slab
rates in Microsoft excel.
USE OF EXCEL IN DATA ENTRY
• Information entered into a cell is understood either as a text entry, a value or a
formula.
• Functions are also treated equivalent to formulae.
• Dates, time and percentages are stored as numbers (values).
• It is important that particular information is stored in the correct format.
TEXT:
• Text entries or labels can contain any combination of letters, numbers and spaces.
• A label which is too long for the width of a cell floats across the cells to its right / left /
both (depending on the alignment of the cell) as long as those cells do not contain any
information.
FUNCTIONS
• A cell can also derive its
value through functions.
• Functions are processes,
which have been defined
and standardized by Excel.
• A complete list of functions
can be found at Insert ->
Function.
• A function takes in certain
standard arguments,
undertakes the evaluation
process and returns a
particular result.
REVERSE LIST SORTING
• This article teaches you how to reverse the
order of the list in the excel sheet.
• Use in analysis
• In this the data is flipped where the
bottom data comes on the top and the
top data goes to bottom and arranged in
a reversed sequence.
It is used in analysing the financials
in terms of relevance and cross
checking of the data.
USE OF MS-EXCEL IN
ANALYSIS OF FINANCIAL
STATEMENTS
COLOR
SCALES
• This feature helps to understand data
distribution and variation, such as
investment returns over time.
• cells are shaped with gradiation of two or
three colors that correspond to minimum ,
mid-point and maximum threshold.
• Use in Financial Analysis:-
It is used for highlighting the maximum, mid-
point and the minimum values in a data.
PIVOT TABLE
• It is one of the most powerful
feature of the ms-excel.
• ms-excel allows the user to
extract the significance from
the large detailed dataset .
• It helps in the peedy analysis
of the financials and the
sorting of data is made into
various categories.
PIVOT CHART
• Visual representation of a pivot table
.Pivot charts and pivot tables are
connected to each other.
• It is a programmed tool introduced
to summarize your pivot table data
in an interactive dataset.
• use in financial analysis:-It helps in
analysing the financials graphically
that helps in faster interpretation of
data.
• FIND DUPLICATES CELLS
A duplicate value occurs more than once in a dataset. It is often found
while working with large databases in excel. It is essential to find and
highlight the duplicate values in excel because the user may or may not
want to retain them.
Some Basic Functions of MS-Excel
2. CONFLICTING/MANAGE RULES:
• Sometimes
multiple
conditional
formatting rules
in Excel conflict. A
higher rule always
wins. This
example
illustrates two
different results.
• This example
illustrates two
different results.
3. ICON SETS
Use an icon set to present data in three to five categories that are
distinguished by a threshold value. Each icon represents a range of values
and each cell is annotated with the icon that represents that range. .
4. SHADE ALTERNATIVE ROWS
• Adding a color to alternate rows or columns (often called color banding) can make
the data in your worksheet easier to scan

- TARBOFUTURE
Excel 2016 has 484 functions.Of these, 360 existed prior to Excel 2010.
Microsoft classifies these functions in 14 categories.
Of the 484 current functions, 386 may be called from VBA as methods of
the object "WorksheetFunction"
and 44 have the same names as VBA functions.
Excel is helpful to use, no matter whether you’re an office worker, a homemaker, or
a data analyst.
Knowing the basics can help you manage budgets, create what-if scenarios,
and anything else you can think of that uses numbers.
VLOOKUP is a fuction in Excel that
allow you to search a table of data
and based on what the user has
supplied and give appropriate
information from that table.
VLOOKUP
If you have a table of Student
ID numbers, Student Names
and Grades, you can set up
Excel so
that if a Student ID number is
supplied by the user, it will look
through the table and output the
student's name and grade.
A shortcut is a method of achieving
something more quickly or more
easily than if you use the usual
methods. For example:- Using
keyboard shortcuts instead of the
mouse enables you to work faster,
more efficiently and with increased
precision, thereby saving you time
and improving your productivity.
SHORTCUT KEYS
BENEFITS OF SHORTCUT KEYS
An often-overlooked method of increasing productivity when working
in an Excel model is to use Excel shortcuts, or shortcut keys. These
shortcut keys perform major functions to save our time like doing
calculations, and to find the things easily by VLOOKUP etc. when used
instead of clicking in the toolbar, dramatically increase efficiency and
speed. Imagine simply pressing two or three keys on the keyboard as
opposed to moving your hand to the mouse, moving the mouse, and
clicking several times.
