Our Presenters
Alan Black Alan (Robert Alan Black, Ph.D., CSP) is a Creative Thinking Consultant who focuses upon the development of creative thinking, leading, communicating, teamwork and problem solving skills in the workplace. His company is Cre8ng People, Places & Possibilities. When not traveling the world, Alan calls Athens, Georgia home. As a consultant, speaker and author, he helps people expand and enrich their natural creative abilities.  Alan uses his 49 years of daily creative work experience at 47 different jobs in eight fields, lasting from one day to 25+ years, along with his formal education in creativity, design, architecture, counseling and educational psychology to provide: examples, skills, tools and techniques to everyone in his groups and audiences. He also has been voted “Employee of the Month” over 300 months in a row. Life to him is “A Creative Journey, Not a Guided Tour. “ Since 1976 he has given over 3400 presentations around the US and the globe. Plus he has written and co-written over 30 books and has had over 400 articles published.
Bruce Baum Dr. R. Bruce Baum, a legend in his own mind, is a Professor in the Exceptional Education Department at Buffalo State College and the ‘Head Honcho’ of HumorCreativity.Com. He received degrees from the University of Cincinnati, and Indiana University. Dr. Baum is author of How to Motivate Audiences: 121 Warmups, Icebreakers and Activities for Promoting Creative Problem Solving, Teamwork and Laughter (Bates Jackson), The Almost Wet Your Pants Book of Humor (Author House, in press), 20 Magic Tricks for the Magically Impaired (DVD) and the MEGA TRAINING CD. In 2007 he received the President’s Award for Excellence in Teaching from Buffalo State College. He is a Colleague in the Creative Education Foundation, a leader in the Annual Creative Problem Solving Institute, a member of the International Brotherhood of Magicians, an Ambassador with the Center for Development of Human Services, a member of the Roswell Park Cancer Institute Humor Project, a Certified Laughter Leader, a member of the Association for Applied and Therapeutic Humor and a Certified Rock Balancer. He has consulted and facilitated with numerous companies, educational institutions, and organizations including work in South Africa, Canada, Jamaica, Singapore and Cyprus. In his spare time, Dr. Baum is a Rocket Scientist, Bronco Rider, Taxidermist, Explorer, Brain Surgeon and Gourmet.
Bill Costa Bill Costa, is a senior Lecturer of Business Administration at Franklin Pierce University. He teaches in the areas of Management, Marketing, and Organizational Behavior and oversees the Senior Business Seminar and the Comprehensive General Business Examination. In his applied work, he helps entrepreneurial team develop and market their products and services. He is a Colleague of the Creative Education Foundation and a Leader at the Creative Problem Institute. Over the last decade, he has coordinated the NiteFlite Programs at both the Creative Problem Solving Institute and the International Creativity Conference in Africa. Bill has served as the Conference Chair for the American Creativity Association’s International Conferences in 2008 and 2009. His interest lies in the practical application of deliberate creativity techniques in the business world, education and life.
Anthony Le Storti Anthony Le Storti is Executive Consultant for IDEATECTS® Inc., a firm specialising in creativity, leadership, and the dynamics of human systems. He founded and directed the Center for Creative Studies at Gwynedd-Mercy College and has taught graduate courses at La Salle University, Cornell University and the University of Pennsylvania. He has an established reputation as a consultant, author and process leader, and has presented widely at major conferences and institutes. His clientele include Fortune 500 corporations as well as educational and nonprofit organisations. A former special warfare officer decorated for service in Vietnam, he holds degrees from La Salle and Temple Universities and has completed executive programs at Harvard Law School, JFK School of Government, and Kellogg Graduate School of Management at Northwestern University. He is a member of the Board of Directors of the American Creativity Association, a Colleague of the Creative Education Foundation and a recipient of that Foundation’s Leadership Services and Commitment Award.
Tara Grey Dr. Tara Grey Coste is a Leadership and Organizational Studies professor at the University of Southern Maine. Her work focuses on refining the training processes that enhance creativity in teams and on teaching business professionals techniques to enhance their leadership abilities in multi-cultural, multi-national environments. She has published numerous articles and presented her work at venues around the world. She is a Colleague of the Creative Education Foundation, a Leader at the Creative Problem Solving Institute, a Visiting Scholar at the Centre for Entrepreneurship of the University of Greenwich, Co-Founder of the International Forum of Creativity Organizations, and Past-President and Director of Research of the American Creativity Association.
Whitney Ferre Whitney Ferré is the author of The Artist Within, A Guide to Becoming Creatively Fit and 33 Things to Know About Raising Creative Kids. She has taught her unique approach to creativity training through art making since 1996 to adults, youth, educators and corporate clients. Her online Creatively Fit Program is designed to get our creative, right brain muscle in shape so that we can “create the change we want to see in our world”.  She has presented at the American Creativity Association and the U.S. Creative Education Foundation conferences. She has received national recognition on CBS News & Martha Stewart Radio. Her latest ART reach was recently recognized by Humanitarian News.  She currently lives on a ranch in NE Oregon.
KoenZonneveld Koen has more than 20 years of experience in training and consulting. He is working with Managers, Works councils, Union officers and volunteers in the Netherlands. Koen is a facilitator of creative thinking sessions where new ideas and possibilities are discovered. Since 2004 he has launched his own consultancy company and provides training in leadership, creativity and working conditions. Koen holds a Master of Science in occupational health and safety, he is the Dutch/Flemish agent of NBI® and is a member of the COCD and CEF. If it would exist, Koen would have a PhD in living a healthy and meaningful life. Proud of his working class background, which seems rare in the creative community, he has been a landed immigrant in Canada at the age of 18, was in the forefront of industrial strife and the women’s lib movement.  He has run three marathons and has skated the original “Elfstedentocht” twice (200 km speed skating in one day).
Tamara Christensen Tamara Christensen, MSD, ABD is founder and Most Valuable Player at momentumxdesign, a consultancy in Kansas City, MO, USA that helps organizations create sustainable forward motion. She specializes in creative consumer insight research, innovation facilitation, and playdates for grownups with big challenges. Tamara earned the nickname ‘the bonding agent’ thanks to her passion and ability for facilitating the integration of research, design, engineering, and manufacturing for a global client list. Her son still just calls her ‘silly’ and ‘weird’. Tamara has designed and taught courses on cognitive offroading, playing with purpose, creative problem solving, design research and methodologies, design pedagogy, sustainable community development, emotional intelligence, and Italian language & culture.  She completed facilitator training with the annual Creative Problem Solving Institute and has contributed to great creative adventures at the Creativity Cruise, Mind amp, and summer design workshops at Domaine de Boisbuchet in rural France. The rest of her brilliant playdates occur while she is studying the art of funn (functional understanding not necessary) with Master Max, her 7 year-old son, an authority on the art of purposeful play. In a recent survey of those in the know, Tamara was metaphorically described as a hotpot, a glass of prosecco, an Energizer bunny, a sharpie, and a whirling dervish. She is particularly fond of bold gestures, belly laughs, inventing acronyms, sing talking, dancing like no one is watching, staying up late at conferences and opportunities to experience these things together.
Amy Basic Amy Basic, a former executive and mechanical engineer, is also an award-winning artist, known as Amy Lee Segami. As a professional speaker, she inspires others to be more innovative with her diverse background and over 20 years of international experience. Amy has worked worldwide, from USA, Europe to Asia, delivered keynote speeches at leadership and creativity conferences, conducted training seminars and facilitated workshops both on-site and off-site. Applying the principles of fluid mechanics, she has revived and transformed an ancient art form into a rich universal tool for innovation and team building. Dr. Christy Hammer Dr. Christy Hammer is a Social and Behavioral Studies professor at the University of Southern Maine. Her work in the sociology of education includes a special focus on prejudice reduction, anti-racism, and gender-fair educational practices. She has been particularly involved in working on the theory and practice of anti-racism in schools, modeling and presenting her creative strategies at numerous national and international conferences. Having done significant work with the U.S. Department of Education, she has been recognized with two high honors for her anti-racism efforts — the Bahai Award for the Unity of Mankind and the Martin Luther King, Jr. Award.

Herman Van den Broeck Herman Van den Broeck has a doctor’s degree in psychological and educational sciences, with a major in pedagogy. He studied at the University of Ghent, Belgium and at the Lancaster University, United Kingdom. Herman is professor at the University of Ghent, Faculty of Economics and Business Administration, and full professor at the Vlerick Leuven Gent Management School. Herman is Partner of the Vlerick Leuven Gent Management School. At this School he is chairman of the Competency Centre ‘People and Organisation’.His major fields of interest are learning organisation, social skills, change management, emotional intelligence and cognitive styles. This year he taught at the Nelson Mandela Metropolitan University, Port Elisabeth, SA. Herman Van den Broeck is chair holder of the Belgacom Chair ‘Building Organisations that Last’. As part of this assignment he is building the serious game ‘Mastering your mood’. LieselSchoonwinkel EBA (Hon); Higher Education Dipl. At present training and talks on creativity and whole brain thinking to schools, community groups, public organizations and private companies through the KobusNeethling Group. As Programme Manager for Student Support at a college, Liesl utilizes the four-quadrant Neethling Brain Instrument for career guidance and train students in creative thinking as part of life skills. Her involvement with learner ships and skills training at the college has lead her to believe that mentorship in the workplace is South Africa’s answer to up-skilling and uplifting all economic role-players. Rache Rutherford Rachè has been involved in identifying and developing creative behaviour as part of the KobusNeethling Group for more than 10 years. She is also director of Solutionsfinding, which focuses on the distribution and management of instruments developed by the KobusNeethling Group. She is involved in the development of creativity programmes in various South African and overseas Companies, (such as Anglo Platinum, Citadel, Sanlam, Sasol, SAAF), schools and other institutions. Rachè is also the co-author of more than 40 books, including the best sellers which she co-authored with Dr KobusNeethling.: Am I clever or am I stupid?; Creative people can perform miracles; Smart Parents, Courage; Whole-Brain Sexuality, Think like Jesus and Feel Like Jesus and Talk to your Food. She has appeared on several TV and radio programmes as a creativity expert and writes regular magazine articles on creativity.
Rosemary Rein Rosemary Rein is the Author of “Go Wild! Survival Skills for Business and Life” and a contributing author to “Blueprint for Success” with co-authors Dr. Stephen Covey and Ken Blanchard. President of Now to WOW!TM Learning Adventures, Rosemary hosts creativity, communication and leadership workshops worldwide in addition to keynoting association conventions and bringing leadership teams to her home in Costa Rica for Business Ideation and Executive Immersion Programs. Rosemary bring a “Go Wild! Go GREAT! Attitude” to her inspired programs which link head and heart connection to both business and classroom environments. She is a frequent presenter at international education conferences including the Creative Problem Solving Institute, Mind camp in Toronto and SA creativity in South Africa. Rosemary is a frequent facilitator for the YPO (Young President’s Organization), International Women in Coffee and an extensive list of Fortune 500 companies On a personal note, Rosemary is an advocate for youth scholarships and environmental education. A graduate of wilderness survival and arts and culture historian, she brings tribal traditions from world cultures to her highly interactive learning adventures.
Kanes Raja BSc., MSc., PhD. Kanes Rajah is Director of the Centre for Entrepreneurship at the University of Greenwich. This Centre is unique, it champions creativity and leadership in entrepreneurship and this is seen in all their work. He has extensive management and business experience, having spent 25 years in international senior marketing management, commodity training and is President of his own management consultancy, Klondyke Management Consultants. Kanes is an eclectic professional. He is a writer and broadcaster and regularly publishes scholarly work in science, technology and business. He is certificated in the use of psychometric instruments and is an active researcher and practitioner of Kirton’s Adaptor-Innovator inventory which he uses extensively in his classes and on his SME as well as corporate client groups in the UK and overseas. He is founder member of the Business Creativity Network, the Aberystwyth Creativity Laboratory and The Creativity Unleashed Consortium.
Montana Makheni ‘The world’s greatest resource stands in your shoes!’ Sound like a cliché? Not when it is stated by the energetic, passionate and enthusiastic Makheni. This vibrant mother of two juggles Speaking, MC-ing, Selling and Training her Soft skills Programs as well as being an associate at TceeDee HR Consulting and Milzet HR Consulting. In 2003, her company, Real Solutions Training, launched an inspirational CD series, the Listen and Grow series which she distributes through Exclusive Books. Real Solutions Training also offers Refresher Courses in the form of training packaged in 60-minute speaking sessions. She is positive, up beat, light-hearted and brings her own unique brand of humour and human insight to any conference/event. Her presentations are both funny and thought provoking. Makheni speaks of a former colleague, Rina Thorne and her mother the way most people speak of Madiba. In 1981 Rina gave her the first book she ever read on personal development and that, she says, led to her becoming a ‘Possibilitarian’. Apart from studying Psychology and Philosophy, She studied in a variety of unrelated fields and has worked in different sectors of the economy, in different industries and at different levels. She gives another meaning to versatility. Amongst her work experience, she lists College Lecturer, Insurance Consultant, Pharmaceutical Rep, Call Centre Manager, Communication and Marketing Senior Manager, Account Executive, O.D. Manager, Trainer and Computer Programmer (this she began at the age of 44!). She started a new career as a TV talk show co-host at age 50! When she talks about change and re-inventing yourself; you are bound to listen. And whilst being so busy building this long CV, she also found time to co-found the Child Abuse Action Group in 1994. She is involved with other children’s charities. She previously volunteered at POWA and other organizations such as the Mental Health Society. She has developed a unique method of teaching Statistics to students who do not have basic computational skills. She has the ability to say something very serious in a very funny way. The achievement she is most proud of is graduating cum laude with a Doctorate in Life from the University of Hard Knocks because like everyone else, life has not been a walk in the park for her.
Wayne Morris Wayne Morris is an artist and a percussion addict who runs Future Edge Ltd, a New Zealand based consultancy specialising in leading, learning and creating, to support his creative habits. After his initial training in teaching and counselling Wayne went on to teach the creative arts at all levels of the New Zealand education sector. He has qualifications in teaching, counselling, art education, vocational education and training, human resource development, leadership and organisational development and learning. His company specialises in leadership development, team and organisational development, workplace creativity and innovation and performance coaching. He has art works in private collections in New Zealand, the UK and the United States and plays percussion in a number of bands. He is regarded as an experienced, pragmatic and entertaining facilitator and has recently launched a series of Creativity Retreats in New Zealand – and he still doesn’t know what he wants to be when he grows up!!
Ruth Moecks Ruth H. Moecks is the founder and president of MKS International – a full-service market research agency in Luxembourg. Ruth studied economics, psychology and holds a diploma in sociology. She is trained in CPS, NLP and NBI (certified). Her extensive experience with top 500 companies over 25 years of research on technology, food and pharmaceuticals in 49 countries has built expertise for her personal transition to consultancy. Ruth’s personal focus is on strategic problem solving, product innovation workshops and creativity trainings for corporations. Her international research background is an additional supportive source of knowledge. When not traveling between the continents Ruth mostly lives and works in the US, building an intercultural bridge for marketing research and creativity. Since 18 years she lectures at her home university in Germany and is regularly presenting at international creativity conferences such as CPSI (USA), CREA (Italy) and ACRE (South Africa). In her spare time Ruth is passionate about ethnic music, books and exploring countries & cultures. As member of SlowFood she is obsessed with cooking and quality food.
Joseph Miguez Joe is co-founder of the Lab Xperience. As leader/presenter, he has presented at the Creative Problem Solving Institute; Alliance for International Learning; New Haven University MBA Leadership Program; Center for Creative Leadership; Robert Greenleaf Center; American Cybermetics Society; CREA, CREATURK, CREACHILE; QXCI Biofeed-Back conference, Hungary; Seal, UK and Mindcamp, CA. Clients have included DuPont, Aera Energy Oil, De Agostini Publishing Group; EURO RSCG Advertising and Federal Express, CA, among others. He is certified in the KAI, HBDI, Team Spirit Leadership, and the Foursight assessment tool. He has undergone three programs @ CCL; Studied with the Bill Isaacs Dialogs Group; The International Creative Studies Program; Don Beck & Spiral Dynamics; Open Space with Harrison Owens; The Shambhala Institute for Authentic Leadership and is a colleague of the Creative Problem Institute.
Sid Marquez Sid works as a creative resource with Olwen Wolfe at Worlding. He attended CPSI’s Youth Program when he was nine years old, and is now fully immersed the world of creativity at the age of 21. Sid loves multi-culturalism and is fluent in three languages. He is an expert in the international Hip-Hop movement, one that he has passionately been a part of for most of his life. In 2007, he facilitated two workshops on Hip Hop at CREA Conference, and two at Mindcamp in Canada. He occasionally facilitates for the American School in Paris. Some of his areas of interest include all kinds of artistic expression, as well as topics dealing with the inner-city and its various issues. Of course, he also has a huge love for creativity and fully identifies with its many tools, methods and mindsets.
MariletKlopper MariletKlopper qualified as a Physiotherapist at the University of Pretoria in 2000. Her career put her on a winding road, working at different private hospitals, private practices as well as the Pretoria Central Prison. In 2002 she embarked on a 2 year journey to the United Kingdom, where she worked for the National Healthcare System and travelled intermittently to the European Continent. Subsequently, she entered the corporate world, as an Orthopedic Representative at a South African Bio-Engineering company, Southern Medical. Her involvement in sales, product research and development, client support in theatre and product training added new dimensions to her work experience interpersonal exposure. This chapter was followed by a return to her Physio roots, where she is currently specializing in Chronic Pain Management and patient guidance. Her career path has taken her to contrasting work environments, varying disciplines of treatment and rehabilitation, exposure to corporate pressures and to people in many different levels of society. The common denominator, however, is her passion to add value to people’s lives, using a creative, holistic methods.In her free time she enjoys being creative in the kitchen, sweating on a spinning bicycle or relaxing in the mountains with her husband, Hennie.
Ina Joubert Ina Joubert is a lecturer at the University of Pretoria. She lectures in the field of Early Childhood Education and specializes in Early Literacy and Children’s Literature. One of her special interests is to facilitate literacy to young children in a creative way by using stories, fables and poetry. This strategy is especially successful with indigenous stories of Africa. This motivates children to create own reading materials in their own context. She is currently busy with a PhD project on citizenship education in South Africa, focusing on creative and interactive citizenship education for the young child.
Tim Hurson Tim is one of North America’s pioneers of idea marketing. He has helped major organisations in the US, Canada and the UK create innovation, marketing, new product and workplace transformation programs. He has trained thousands of executives in improving their thinking skills and their ability to communicate their ideas. His keynote speeches on creative intelligence, perception and leadership are in demand throughout the world. He has written numerous articles on improving creative intelligence both in the workplace and at home. Tim is co-author of “thinkx”, a productive thinking model and delivery system that helps organisations identify and develop their untapped thinking capacity. Tim is a contributor to the most recent edition (1998) of Roger von Oech’s A Whack on the Side of the Head. He serves on the Executive Committee of the Board of Directors of the Ontario Chamber of Commerce, is Chair of the Board or Directors of the Responsible Gambling Council of Canada, Chair of the YMCA Employment and Community Services Advisory Council, member of the Governing Council of the YMCA of Metropolitan Toronto, member of the Board of Directors of the Canadian Association of Professional Speakers (Toronto), and member of the Board of Trustees of the Creative Education Foundation (Hadley, MA). He is also a co-founder of a new non-profit, volunteer organisation, Facilitators Without Borders, whose mission is to assist communities in civic problem-solving and opportunity-finding.
Karen Hodges Karen is part of the vibrant team of the KobusNeethling Group. She has been developing creative behaviour in children and young adults for the last 8 years. Her fun-filled creativity classes are well-known throughout Cape Town where she is based. In her classes she concentrates on building self-esteem and establishing creative confidence by designing classes to stimulate the whole brain. Karen also specialises in presentations which assist parents and teachers to develop creative behaviour in children. Four and a half years ago she decided to adopt a farm school in the Durbanville area as her community project and has been teaching children from disadvantaged backgrounds creative thought processes. LenetteHattingh Dr. LanetteHattingh completed her B.SOS.Sc Nursing degree, and her Honors in Psychology at UOVS. She then started studying at RAU where she did a PGCE Degree and thereafter did her B.Ed and M.Ed and both of these she passed Cum Laude. She completed her D.Ed in 1991. During her studies she received the Pieter van Zyl prize for the best student in the Faculty of Education. She also did a Certificate in Play Therapy and a Certificate in Creativity. Dr. Hattingh has years of experience in various fields of study. In her career of 36 years she was involved in Nursing, Personnel Assistant, Trim Instructing, Public Relations, Psychometrics, Student Assistance, Lecturing and Internships. In 1990 she opened her own Practice as a Psychologist which she is still doing today. She is the CEO of Brainwave Projects where she does many Career Orientation and Life Skills Projects. In the practice she specializes in learning problems, school readiness, study workshops and career and subject choices. Dr. Hattingh forms part of 4 committees – The Health Professions Council of SA, Psychologists in Private Practice, Educational Psychologists and the University for Johannesburg Alumni Committee. Dr. Hattingh is involved at Helpmekaar and Abbotts College in Entrance Exams, Career Guidance, Study, Motivation and Tutoring. She has also made herself available for assistance to Masters and Doctoral Psychology students at UJ. She is a Motivational Speaker at many functions.
BrankoBroekman Branko is a sculptor and innovation advisor, founder of CreAspect, a consulting firm serving individuals and businesses to exploit their innovative potential. Since ’97 he worked with numerous individuals, private and public organizations in Europe and the USA. He is a certified Master Coach in Intercultural Neuro-Linguistic Programming for individuals. Formally educated as landscape architect and environmental engineer, Branko discovered the strengths of creative problem solving when he was working in the field of integral water management at the Ministry of Water Management and Public Works in the Netherlands. He is currently completing a Masters in Creativity and Change Leadership at the International Center for Studies in Creativity at Buffalo State College. In his business he combines his passion, knowledge and experience to advise, train and facilitate people to switch on their imagination and to create.
Albert Gibson Albert Gibson, after 30 years with Mars Inc., is an independent consultant in Southern California. His corporate work as MR Director bridged Marketing Research and Management Science emphasizing intercultural/international issues in strategic planning and organization development. His consulting work focuses on three areas of practice: complex decision analysis and sustainable business models. Albert’s formal education is in Economics. His continuing education has emphasized facilitation of group problem solving and applications in consumer and team psychology. He is experienced with facilitation methods focused on strategic planning and creative problem solving.
Karen Hodges Neil has been running Genesis Business Services in the UK for over twenty years.He is married to Heather and they have four children. Neil explained that 2008/2009 has been without exception the most difficult trading period ever with having to make redundant eight of his nine consultants. His session will help you see the sales techniques that he used to manage his consultancy through the credit crunch which saw 80% of his clients go bust. They included Bear Steams, Merrill Lynch and Deutsche Bank to name but a few. After 20 years of private and semi private practice she went back to the University of Pretoria to graduate in MA Counselling Psychology. She now has a successful private practice and specialises in SHIP® Therapy (Spontaneous Healing Intrasystemic Process), SHIP®forTrauma, Imago Relationship Therapy, Impact Therapy and Solution Focused Therapy. She has had appearances as guest speaker at several seminars, charity-, church- and school functions. A variety of workshops at Denel (Armscor), ITC (International Training in Communication) and various Bush camps have also been facilitated by her. She has a keen interest in public speaking, and has won several National Speech Competitions as well as achieving third position in an International Speech Festival. Evaluation and adjudication of Oratory Contests is one of the ways that she gives back to the community. In short, Marlene summarises her interests as: eating, gardening, squash, eating, reading, crafts, eating, crafts, creating beauty from nothing and definitely eating! MagrietEngelbrecht MagrietEngelbrecht has been a senior trainer for the KobusNeethling Group for the past eight years. She has coached some of the most prestigious companies in creativity and Whole Brain thinking. She holds 4 degrees and a Higher Education Diploma, including an Honours Degree in English Literature and a Masters Degree [cum laude] in the teaching of English. Prior to working as part of the KobusNeethling Group Magriet ran communication campaigns on behalf of government, including the Transitional Constitution campaign. These campaigns received a number of prestigious awards. She was also the Director of Communication of the National Department of Agriculture. In 2007 he received the President’s Award for Excellence in Teaching from Buffalo State College. Manager, Trainer and Computer Programmer (this she began at the age of 44!). She started a new career as a TV talk show co-host at age 50! When she talks about change and re-inventing yourself; you are bound to listen. And whilst being so busy building this long CV, she also found time to co-found the Child Abuse Action Group in 1994. She is involved with other children’s charities. She previously volunteered at POWA and other organizations such as the Mental Health Society. This chapter was followed by a return to her Physio roots, where she is currently specializing in Chronic Pain Management and patient guidance.   • 38. Ina Joubert Ina Joubert is a lecturer at the University of Pretoria. She lectures in the field of Early Childhood Education and specializes in Early Literacy and Children’s Literature. Her fun-filled creativity classes are well-known throughout Cape Town where she is based. In her career of 36 years she was involved in Nursing, Personnel Assistant, Trim Instructing, Public Relations, Psychometrics, Student Assistance, Lecturing and Internships. In 1990 she opened her own Practice as a Psychologist which she is still doing today. She is the CEO of Brainwave Projects where she does many Career Orientation and Life Skills Projects. In the practice she specializes in learning problems, school readiness, study workshops and career and subject choices. Dr. Hattingh forms part of 4 committees – The Health Professions Council of SA, Psychologists in Private Practice, Educational Psychologists and the University for Johannesburg Alumni Committee. After 20 years of private and semi private practice she went back to the University of Pretoria to graduate in MA Counselling Psychology. She now has a successful private practice and specialises in SHIP® Therapy (Spontaneous Healing Intrasystemic Process), SHIP®forTrauma, Imago Relationship Therapy, Impact Therapy and Solution Focused Therapy. She has had appearances as guest speaker at several seminars, charity-, church- and school functions. A variety of workshops at Denel (Armscor), ITC (International Training in Communication) and various Bush camps have also been facilitated by her. She has a keen interest in public speaking, and has won several National Speech Competitions as well as achieving third position in an International Speech Festival. Evaluation and adjudication of Oratory Contests is one of the ways that she gives back to the community. In short, Marlene summarises her interests as: eating, gardening, squash, eating, reading, crafts, eating, crafts, creating beauty from nothing and definitely eating!
