Market 2013: Competitive Landscape Analysis
BG Group is involved in Tanzania’s gas development having discovered 10tcf. BG Group also
gained access to new exploration licences in Egypt, India, Trinidad and Tobago and Uruguay, and
was continuing its drilling operations off the coast of Brazil. BG Group is expecting to drill in Kenya
in 2014 and Uruguay in 2016.
BG Group is slated to have 15 FPSOs in operation in Brazil by 2018 with an anticipated output of
2.1mmboe/d and gas processing capacity of 3.0bcf/d. As Figure 4.30 shows, since 2008 the
expansion in US gas production has offset the fall in UK, Egypt and Indian gas production.
A breakdown of volumes of production on a country by country basis is provided in Figure 4.30.

4.19.1 Anadarko Petroleum in the Global Gas Market
Anadarko Petroleum is a growing oil and gas producing company. One of the most notable gas
discoveries of the company is the giant gas fields off the coast of Mozambique. The recoverable
gas reserves in the Rovuma basin are estimated to be between 35-65tcf (1.0tcm-1.82tcm). Further
gas discoveries were made in Mid-2012 with Golfinho and Atum gas fields holding around 30tcf
(850bcm). Anadarko has a 36.5% stake in these field developments. The most economic way of
monetising gas discoveries off the coast of Mozambique is thought to be by building an LNG
liquefaction terminal to export the gas to high gas demand regions of the world. Hence, the Palma
LNG project is a concept that Anadarko, along with its partners Empresa Nacional de
Hidrocarbonetos (ENH), Mitsui and Cove Energy, are considering to build. The first phase of this
project will provide a 5.0mtpa LNG liquefaction capacity, costing around $4.0bn. Anadarko also
has exploration concessions in Ghana, Brazil, Liberia, Sierra Leone, Kenya, Cote d’Ivoire, New
Zealand, Indonesia, and other countries. In 2013 the mid-stream gas businesses of the company

BG Group also gained access to new exploration licences in Egypt, India, Trinidad and Tobago and Uruguay, and was continuing its drilling operations off the coast of Brazil. BG Group is expecting to drill in Kenya in 2014 and Uruguay in 2016. BG Group is slated to have 15 FPSOs in operation in Brazil by 2018 with an anticipated output of 2.1mmboe/d and gas processing capacity of 3.0bcf/d. As Figure 4.30 shows, since 2008 the expansion in US gas production has offset the fall in UK, Egypt and Indian gas production. One of the most notable gas discoveries of the company is the giant gas fields off the coast of Mozambique. The recoverable gas reserves in the Rovuma basin are estimated to be between 35-65tcf (1.0tcm-1.82tcm). Further gas discoveries were made in Mid-2012 with Golfinho and Atum gas fields holding around 30tcf (850bcm). Anadarko has a 36.5% stake in these field developments. The most economic way of monetising gas discoveries off the coast of Mozambique is thought to be by building an LNG liquefaction terminal to export the gas to high gas demand regions of the world. Hence, the Palma LNG project is a concept that Anadarko, along with its partners Empresa Nacional de Hidrocarbonetos (ENH), Mitsui and Cove Energy, are considering to build. The first phase of this project will provide a 5.0mtpa LNG liquefaction capacity, costing around $4.0bn. Anadarko also has exploration concessions in Ghana, Brazil, Liberia, Sierra Leone, Kenya, Cote d’Ivoire, New Zealand, Indonesia, and other countries. In 2013 the mid-stream gas businesses of the company Table 4.57 Anadarko Petroleum Headquarters, Ticker, Gas Production 2012 (Mmcf/d), Gas Reserves 2012 (Bcf), Capex 2012 ($bn), Capex 2013 ($bn), Market Share 2012 (%), Market Share Forecast 2013 (%), Rank 2012, Employees , Revenue ($bn) & 2013 Outlook Source: Visiongain 2013 & Anadarko Petroleum
