BRIEF HISTORY Based on the older Linux distribution DEBIAN South African Internet mogul, Mark Shuttleworth, creates a more human friendly Debian distribution and calls it Ubuntu Ubuntu 4.10 is released on October 20, 2004 Shuttleworth and Canonical Ltd formed and funded the Ubuntu Foundation to ensure the future of Ubuntu
WHAT UBUNTU IS Pronounced  oo-BOON-too Named after the South African ethical ideology Ubuntu ("humanity towards others") Computer OS perfect for laptops, desktops and servers FREE OF CHARGE!!!! –Microsoft doesn’t do that!!!!
WHAT UBUNTU IS Ubuntu is composed of multiple software packages distributed under a free software or an open license that declares that users are free to run, copy, distribute, study, change, develop and improve the software New versions are released every six months and supports releases for 18 months LTS (Long Term Support) versions are released every 2 years and supports for 3 years for desktops and 5 years for servers. Current version of Ubuntu, 9.04, release April 23, 2009

FEATURES No restart required prior to installation Security feature, the sudo tool is used to assign temporary privileges for performing administrative tasks Ubuntu comes installed with a wide range of software that includes OpenOffice, Firefox, several lightweight games and other useful programs Ubuntu can also run many programs designed for Microsoft Windows
