The Buffs snapped a five game winning streak last Thursday night as long scoring
droughts doomed WT in a 93-75 loss at Lubbock Christian in non-conference action. The
Buffs went 29-of-62 (46.8%) from the floor on the night including 6-of-25 (24%) from long
range and 11-of-19 (57.9%) from the charity stripe to go along with 37 rebounds (15
offensive, 22 defensive), 25 fouls, nine assists, 16 turnovers, three blocks and five steals
in the game. David Chavlovich went 8-of-18 from the floor including 3-of-9 from deep
as he scored 15 points in the first half with just six in the final period followed by Jordan
Evans and Jeff Bonner with 13 points each while Ryan Quaid scored 11 points to go
along with six rebounds.
WT HEAD COACH TOM BROWN
Head coach Tom Brown was hired on April 16, 2014, as the 17th head coach in WT
men’s basketball history. The Buffs completed an impressive season under Brown in his
rookie campaign in Canyon. While returning just three student-athletes who saw play-
ing time the year prior and picked last in the conference preseason poll, WT finished the
season with a 17-12 overall record (12-4 at home) and 7-7 mark in Lone Star Confer-
ence play. They made the LSC Tournament as the fifth seed and fell in the quarterfinals
to eventual tournament champion Texas A&M-Commerce. Brown is currently 23-15
overall during his time in Canyon.

LSC PRESEASON MEDIA DAY (OCT. 28)
Tarleton State earned top billing according to the 2015-16 Lone Star Conference men’s
basketball preseason poll announced by the league’s offices on October 28th. TSU
claimed the top spot with 19 first-place votes and 173 points after winning the LSC
Championship last season with a 12-2 league mark. Midwestern State finished second
with 151 points including the remaining three first-place votes. Angelo State was third
with 120 points, followed by defending tournament champions Texas A&M-Commerce
in fourth (109). West Texas A&M was picked fifth with 84 points with Cameron sixth (72),
Texas A&M- Kingsville (55), and Eastern New Mexico (28) rounding out the poll.
MSU’s Bretson McNeal was tabbed Preseason Player of the Year. The LSC has eight
teams set for this season and the league race should be as competitive as ever. The
season begins November 13 with LSC teams playing a double round robin league
schedule, in which each team plays a home and away contest against each of the
other teams to determine the LSC champion. The LSC champion will be the regular
season winner determined by league games, while the postseason tournament winner
is designated as LSC Tournament Champion and earns the conference’s automatic
qualification. The top eight teams in the final conference standings qualify for the post-
season tournament set for March 2-5 in Allen, Texas.

Mid-America Christian Probable Starters
MID-AMERICA CHRISTIAN
The #10 Evangels of Mid-America Christian enter the week with an
overall record of 8-2 with an 0-1 mark in Sooner Athletic Conference
(NAIA) play as they fell to Texas Wesleyan on the road on Saturday
afternoon in Fort Worth, 111-101. MACU is led by first year head
coach Josh Gamblin who came to OKC following a stint as a grad-
uate assistant at the University of Oklahoma including the Sooners’
run to the NCAA Sweet 16 last year. The Evangels are led offensively
by Nick Tate who is shooting 45% (54-of-120) from the floor including
37.3% (19-of-51) from long range and 80% (48-of-60) from the free
throw line to average 17.5 points per game this season while team-
mates Devonse Reed (16.9), Jerrick Massenburge (12.3), Byron Miller
(11.6) and Chris Runnels (10.2) are all averaging double-digits for
MACU with Runnels blocking 23 shots and averaging 6.4 rebounds
per contest. The Evangels are shooting 47.1% from the floor as a
team including 34.3% from deep and 74.7% from the charity stripe
to go along with 44.2 rebounds per game while scoring 97.6 points
per contest while allowing 89.6 per game.
THE SERIES vs. MACU
The Buffs are 1-0 all-time against the Evangels with the only meeting
coming on January 2nd of last year as WT outlasted MACU, 92-84 in
overtime at the First United Bank Center. After trailing by double-dig-
its in the second half, WT forced overtime and dominated the extra
five minutes on the hardwood to earn a fifth-straight win, defeating
Mid-America Christian, 92-84, on Friday night at the FUBC Canyon.
The Buffs were led by Chavlovich with 27 points and a career/sea-
son-high 8-for-14 from long range. The Buffs finished the night going
33-for-70 from the field (.471) compared to 31-for-70 (.443) for the
visitors. WT also converted on 14-of-33 shots from beyond the arc
(.424).
AROUND THE LSC
The LSC men have a 43-19 overall record so far this season. In the
NCAA South Central Region, the men’s teams are currently 9-9
combined versus Heartland Conference teams and 12-8 against
the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference. Tarleton State’s EJ Reed
picked up the league’s Offensive Player of the Week award for
the second time this season as he leads the LSC in scoring with 22.3
points per contest as he helped No. 9 Tarleton improve to 7-1 on
the year with a pair of 25-point games in the two wins. Midwestern
State’s Trevor Fuller was named the league’s Defensive Player of
the Week as he keyed defensive efforts for # 14 Midwestern State
in wins over St. Mary’s and Oklahoma Christian as the Mustangs im-
proved to 7-1 on the season. The 6-8 forward from Dallas averaged
6.5 points and 6.5 rebounds a game to go along with six blocked

April 16, 2014, as the 17th head coach in
WT men’s basketball history.
The Buffs recently completed an im-
pressive season under Brown in his rookie

time the year prior and picked last in the
conference preseason poll, WT finished the
season with a 17-12 overall record (12-4 at
home) and 7-7 mark in Lone Star Confer-
ence play. They made the LSC Tournament
as the fifth seed and fell in the quarterfinals
to eventual tournament champion Texas
A&M-Commerce.
In 2014-15, the Buffs started out the sea-
son ranked 159th in the Hero Sports Division
II Rankings and improved greatly to finish
the season ranked 50th in DII Hoops.
Senior guard Tez Dumars made a mark
on the WT record book last season as he
moved into 4th place on the all-time scor-
ing list with 1,230 points to passed former
NBA All-Star Maurice Cheeks. Arlington
native David Chavlovich was named
the Lone Star Conference Freshman of
the Year, he was also named to the LSC
All-Conference Second Team for his efforts
on the court, averaging 16.5 points per
contest to go along with 93 assists and 30
steals.
The 2014-15 season was also a banner
year in the classroom. The team achieved
the highest recorded Team GPA in the
history of West Texas A&M Men’s Basketball
as the team increased their team GPA by
more than 38% over the previous season.
Brown has 21 years of coaching experi-
ence overall, and was part of one of the
most successful Division II men’s basketball
programs in recent history as he helped
lead the Warriors to the NCAA Division II
National Championship in 2006 and 2008,
while finishing runner-up in 2007. During
that span, Winona State posted an unprec-
edented 105-6 record.
Named Division II Bulletin’s ‘Program
of the Decade’ for 2000-2009, WSU set a
NCAA Division II record with 57 consecutive
wins, a run that began on Jan. 13, 2006,
and didn’t end until the national title game
on Mar. 24, 2007. The 2007-08 Warrior squad
won a NCAA record 38 games.
An excellent recruiter and teacher,
Brown recruited and developed some of
the best players in the nation with three Na-
tional Player of the Year recipients, along
with six first team All-America honorees and
10 players total have earned All-America
status. He helped coach five NSIC Most
Valuable Players, seven NSIC Defensive
Players of the Year and two Elite Eight Most
Valuable Players.
In addition to on the court success, the
Warriors were very strong in the classroom
as the men’s basketball team had a
grade-point average of 3.0 or better each
semester since Fall 2011 under Brown, with
a graduation rate 35% higher than the
national average.
Brown attended and played basket-
ball at Winona State from 1988-1992. He
finished his Warrior career ranked fifth in
program history in scoring, second in assists
and first in steals. He earned his bachelor’s
degree in 1993 in physical education and
completed his master’s degree in educa-
tion in 1998.
He and his wife Trisha are the proud par-
ents of three children, TJ, Zach and Ella.
