This webinar agenda provides an overview of renewable energy development in Virginia:
- Dominion Energy will discuss their wind turbine and solar development projects.
- A panel discussion will cover topics like the Virginia Clean Economy Act, offshore wind goals, and environmental benefits of the state's renewable energy targets.
- The webinar will conclude with a question and answer session.
4. “Virginia is all in for clean energy, and we
welcome Rose Holm’s decision to locate its
first U.S. operation in our Commonwealth,”
said Virginia’s Governor Ralph Northam.
“Our Clean Energy Virginia initiative is driving
new investment and new jobs in renewable
energy, and now it is bringing a new
manufacturing facility to Henrico. We look
forward to a strong partnership with Rose
Holm as we work to make Virginia a hub for
the East Coast offshore wind supply chain and
service industries.”

• Global Data Centers in 2019 used roughly
416 terawatts (4.16 x 1014 watts) (or about
3% of the total electricity), nearly 40% more
than the entire United Kingdom.
• Carbon Neutral: Achieving net zero carbon
dioxide emissions by balancing carbon dioxide
emissions with removal (often through carbon
offsetting or simply eliminating carbon dioxide
emissions altogether).
• Carbon Negative: Reduction of an
entity's carbon footprint to less than neutral, so
that the entity has a net effect of
removing carbon dioxide from the atmosphere
rather than adding it.

Signed by Governor Northam on April 12; effective as of
July 1, 2020. Most consequential energy policy reform
since 2007 Reregulation Act.
Major provisions:
• Mandatory renewable portfolio standard (replaces
voluntary standard)
• Virginia’s participation in a regional carbon trading
program (RGGI)
• Retirement of carbon-emitting electric generating units
(with backstop for reliability/security)
• Significant net metering expansion
• Energy efficiency standard (5% energy savings by
2025 vs. 2019 baseline)
• Exemptions for customers already pursuing
sustainability goals
