 Three Way Catalyst
 Packaged as a muffler-vertical or horizontal mount
 Weighs approx 100 pounds
 Minimizes vehicle impact
 No regeneration or DEF required.
Maintenance – ISL G
 Maintenance is a key factor in engine life
 ISL G maintenance intervals are established by Cummins
  Engineering and are based on engine family data.
 Key interval is oil drain, which is duty cycle dependant.
 The ISL G durability target for major engine components
  (crankshaft, etc.) is the same as ISL
  – B50 of 600K miles / 20,000 hours in typical on-highway
    applications (30 mph average speed).
 However, not all engine components have the same life
  expectation. In particular, the ISL G engine 2 valve cylinder
  head
  – Predicted B50 life of 325K miles (11,000 hours).
Intended Service Guidelines
 The ISL G operates in a variety of applications. Maintenance intervals as
  published by Cummins are established based on vehicle applications and
  average speed.
 Normal Duty is described as idle time less than 40%, the vehicle does not
  operate in dusty areas, and GVW is not more than 65,000 pounds.
 Vehicles exceeding the published weight values as described in Cummins
  AEB 140.21 require a Cummins application review.

ISL G Severe Duty Application Review
 Severe Duty is described as more than 40% idle time, expected annual
  mileage in excess of 60,000 miles per year or weights in excess of 65,000
  pounds
 Severe Duty requires special consideration on a case by case basis
   – Severe duty may increase maintenance costs and engine life
 Each case must be specifically approved by CWI.

 GCVW limitations for the ISX12 G have yet to be finalized, the
  ISX12 diesel is unlimited but does have higher ratings (425/1650).
 Investigations and analysis of GCVW in excess of 100,000 lbs is in
  process.

 Automotive Base warranty for Cummins Westport natural gas engines is
  same as Cummins diesel base platform
 2 Year / 250,000 Mile Warranty
   – 100% parts and labor on warrantable failures*
   – Travel or towing when an engine is disabled by a warrantable failure
   – Consumables not reusable due to covered failure
   – Limited progressive damage, including aftertreatment
 Extended Coverage options are yet to be determined, and will be

Maintenance – ISL G  Maintenance is a key factor in engine life  ISL G maintenance intervals are established by Cummins Engineering and are based on engine family data.  Key interval is oil drain, which is duty cycle dependant.  The ISL G durability target for major engine components (crankshaft, etc.) is the same as ISL – B50 of 600K miles / 20,000 hours in typical on-highway applications (30 mph average speed).  However, not all engine components have the same life expectation. In particular, the ISL G engine 2 valve cylinder head – Predicted B50 life of 325K miles (11,000 hours).
  • 14. Intended Service Guidelines  The ISL G operates in a variety of applications. Maintenance intervals as published by Cummins are established based on vehicle applications and average speed.  Normal Duty is described as idle time less than 40%, the vehicle does not operate in dusty areas, and GVW is not more than 65,000 pounds.  Vehicles exceeding the published weight values as described in Cummins AEB 140.21 require a Cummins application review. ISL G Severe Duty Application Review  Severe Duty is described as more than 40% idle time, expected annual mileage in excess of 60,000 miles per year or weights in excess of 65,000 pounds  Severe Duty requires special consideration on a case by case basis – Severe duty may increase maintenance costs and engine life  Each case must be specifically approved by CWI.

  3. This slide highlights the differences between the ISL9 diesel and ISL G natural gas engines. There are components on the ISL G (spark ignition, 2 valve head etc) that add some incremental maintenance costs to natural gas operations, however these costs are typically offset by the overall savings in fuel costs with natural gas. It is important to note that a specific natural gas oil that meets Cummins Spec CES20074 be used in the ISL G. The ISL G is very quiet, 10db at idle is significant, For example one diesel at idle is the same as 10 ISL G’s at idle!
  4. This is a schematic outlining both the aftertreatment of the ISL9 diesel engine and the ISL G natural gas engine. Note that the ISL G does not require SCR systems or particulate filters to meet 2010 emission requirements.

  6. While about 80% of the major components of the ISX12 G are the same as the ISX12 diesel there are differences. One of the unique features of the ISX12 G’s design architecture is the Fuel Module, where the correct mix of charge cooled air, EGR and natural gas is introduced into the intake manifold for Stoichiometric combustion. Also, unlike the diesel engines where fuel will ignite under compression, natural gas requires an ignition source (spark plugs) . Coil on Plug Ignition is utilized to ensure optimum spark and eliminate spark plug wires. The Ignition Control Module controls the firing of the spark plugs during the combustion process. The ignition module and the fuel module are controlled by a full authority CM2180A Electronic Control Module (ECM) with programmable features and compatible with Cummins diagnostic tools. Unlike the previous Cummins Westport engines, a 4 valve cylinder head will be utilized on the ISX12 G. The ISX12 G requires lower charged air and EGR flow rates than diesel engines, so is configured with a wastegate turbocharger, rather than a variable geometry turbo utilized on the ISX12 diesel.
  7. [Slide Builds]- The ISX12 G Coil Extension and Spark Plug are unique to the Cummins Natural Gas Engines, but the concept of a spark plug is familiar to most people. [Slide Builds]-The Spark Ignited system shows the way that the air and fuel are mixed for a stoichiometric combustions. [Slide Builds]- The ISX12 G can use either CNG or LNG or Biomethane (as long as it meets specifications). The engine will turn LNG into CNG, but the driver and OEM can make the decision on how it will be stored on the vehicle.

  9. ISX12 G offers ratings with peak torque from 1150 lb-ft to 1450 lb-ft, whereas the ISX12 diesel engine offers ratings from 1150 to 1650 lb-ft. Within the 1150-1450 lb-ft range, the ISX12 G and ISX12 torque curves have a similar shape, resulting in similar vehicle performance and driveability.
