11. Safety
Quote from the EPA (EPA420-F-00-
003):
“Although CNG is a flammable
gas, it has a narrow flammability
range, making it an inherently
safe fuel. Strict safety standards
make CNG vehicles as safe as
gasoline-powered vehicles. In
the event of a spill or accidental
release, CNG poses no threat to
land or water; it is nontoxic.
CNG also disperses rapidly,
minimizing ignition risk relative
to gasoline.”
Nationwide Insurance, in looking at the
safety of natural gas buses in a fleet,
concluded as long ago as1992 that:
“…the natural gas powered vehicles will
be the safest vehicles in your fleet and
(we) have no
reservations about insuring them.”
(Palmer, Pat, Nationwide Insurance, letter to Kenneth E. Bauman
Bus, Inc., 09/10/92)
15. FAQs & Concerns
How will a CNG system
affect the
manufacturer’s
warranty?
Are STAG CNG systems
certified by the EPA?
How does the
equipment affect
storage?
How does natural gas
affect engine
performance?

Subject: EPA Certificate of Compliance for CNG conversion on
Ford vehicles
I see that you got an EPA Certificate of Compliance for CNG
conversion on Ford vehicles. I’d like to hear about your sales,
pricing, technical approach. I have some industry knowledge and
perhaps we can discuss.
