2. Ibn al-Qayyim[1] – rahimahullaah- said: “There are six stages to knowledge: Firstly: Asking questions in a good manner. Secondly: Remaining quiet and listening attentively. Thirdly: Understanding well. Fourthly: Memorising. Fifthly: Teaching. Sixthly- and it is its fruit: Acting upon the knowledge and keeping to its limits.”
4. To be conscious that you are ignorant is a great step to knowledge.
5. It is no good to try to stop knowledge from going forward. Ignorance is never better than knowledge.
6. The beginning of knowledge is the discovery of something we do not understand.
7. If you have knowledge, let others light their candles at it.
8. You can know the name of a bird in all the languages of the world, but when you're finished, you'll know absolutely nothing whatever about the bird... So let's look at the bird and see what it's doing -- that's what counts. I learned very early the difference between knowing the name of something and knowing something.
