1. DT Process Journal Assessment
October 4th, Monday.
We made several designs of doorstop in class, and at home. Then
I picked one design that I liked the best and most comfortable to make
with, which is a rounded shape door stop with a Tokio Hotel logo on it,
Tokio Hotel is my favorite band, so I wanted the logo to be on my door
stop, and their logo fits perfectly with the rounded shape. After, I went
into the studio and picked one piece of wood, the one I chose was not
so think, nor thick. If it was too thin, which is easy to work with but I’m
afraid it will break easily. But the thicker one will be harder to work with.
Next, I cut my piece of wood into particular shape with several
handsaws, and I sanded my doorstop with the disk sander to make the
circle shape smooth and look better.
I used a tenon saw to cut the outline, a
pull saw to cut the part that a tenon saw can’t
reach, a copping saw for curves, and half-
rounded files, flat files for sanding off those
not flat edges. I also used a disk sander for
sanding off uneven edges, and a sand board
to smooth the whole wood piece. The picture
shown above is taken when I was using a copping saw to create curves
on my door stop.
I think I’m pretty well done with cutting, and what I need to do
next is probably use several files to smooth the edges so it won’t break
easily, and paint my door stop!
The tools I’m going to use next is a half-round file, and paint
brush, paints.
File, never put it in your pocket, and never swing it around.
I felt great today, I’m quite proud of myself that I turned a
rectangular shaped piece of wood to a door stop...
Human Ingenuity and Communication. Well, first of all Design
Technology is about creating stuff, and make it. I created a door stop
design, and I am actually making it. Communication is very important,
it’s communication helped me to understand instructions, how to make,
how to use things. Mr. Anderson communicated with us so we could
follow the rules.

2. Risk-Taker. I chose risk taker because I had to challenge myself
using some dangerous tools and I may get hurt if I’m not careful.
