La Victoire de Samothrace La Victoire de Samothrace (The Winged Victory of Samothrace) (Greek: Νίκη της Σαμοθράκης, Niki tis Samothrakis), also called Nike of Samothrace, was discovered in 1863 on the small island of Samothrace (Σαμοθρακη, Samothraki) in the northwest Aegean by Charles Champoiseau, French Vice-Consul to Adrianople (Turkey). It was brought to the Louvre that same year, and since 1884 has dominated the Escalier Dar (Daru Staircase).
