• As discussed above, what I have understood about
the term ‘Identity’ is that it is a characteristic of a
person e.g. the geek, mean girl, gangster etc.
3. Collective identity
• A collective identity refers to individuals' sense of
belonging (the identity) to a group (the collective).

of a group of people e.g. the chavs, the emos, the

4. Mediation
• Mediation, designate processes for bringing about

a dispute. Mediation implies deliberation that results
in solutions that may or may not be accepted by
the contending parties.

‘representation’ is that, it is the act of presenting an idea to a
crowd or making a speech.
6. Hegemony
• Hegemony ("leadership", "rule") is an indirect form of
government of imperial dominance in which the
hegemon (leader state) rules geopolitically
subordinate states by the implied means of
power, the threat of force, rather than by direct
military force.

the term ‘Colonialism’ is that, this could be
associated with the slave trade. Where British
people colonised and exploited Africa.

the term ‘Imperial’ is that, this could be associated
with the British Empire as it masses of power over
many countries during the Victorian era.
9. Youth subculture
