The document discusses Kit Ng's background and experience in innovation roles, including developing an IoT prototype to enable active aging and learning that innovations must have clear business models. It also outlines her skills and goals of being goal-oriented, proactive, collaborative, and bringing innovative solutions through understanding customer needs and realities.
2. In IDA, I was tasked to build a public showcase for an annual tech fest event to demonstrate how wearable and sensor technologies (IoT)
at home can be leveraged to enabling active ageing. We developed a prototype gateway that connects various health devices such as
wireless blood pressure monitor and weighing scale, data is collected then illustrated in a real-time dashboard.
We received a number of positive feedbacks from visitors who came to our showcase. To name one, a visitor was glad to learn that IoT is
not just about home automation (turning on/off light and automate HVAC etc), but life transforming in improving personal well-being and
quality of life.
After the showcase I was eager to bring the project forward by conducting a pilot trial with a local health institution. Much to my
surprise, health professionals who I spoke with were not receptive to this new technological opportunity. Reducing frequent flyer visits
was no doubt beneficial for hospital (where taking health measurements can be done by ease at home) but there was no clear ROI model
nor monetary incentives to sustain this eHealth initiative in a long run.
Thanks to this project I learn that good innovations change people’s perception while great innovations define business model through
understanding reality.

MY STORIES:
WHEN PRODUCT PASSION MEETS CUSTOMER EMPATHY
In KM, we had created a MVP (mobile app) that allows mobile users to pre-order food online from a list of participating
restaurants. Potential users love the ease and convenience that save them time in queuing (self ordering) or waiting for
order to be taken (table ordering). Restaurant owners welcome this idea too, thanks to freemium publicity and additional
revenue channel. However the new digital touch point introduced challenges for front and back facing operational staff,
i.e. front desk needed to monitor mobile orders (made via our app) and entered those orders into their POS system
manually.
To alleviate this pain point, we expanded our solution to integrate with existing systems such as POS and KDS. When
doing so, we also uncovered the potential to optimize operational efficiencies (prioritize food preparation and serving)
and improve effectiveness of marketing campaign (up-sell or cross-sell products at right time, right place) by mining,
mashing and analyzing the data.
I believe that a successful product has to be benefit-driven rather than feature-driven. Hence we need to constantly
unleash passion within internal team, at the same time build empathy with external customers
